Résumé:
Based in Luanda, Angola, the office of COSTALOPES is headed by Alexandre and António Falcão Costa Lopes. One of the most distinguished offices in Angolan architecture today, its portfolio includes numerous projects reflecting both the architects’ heritage and the strong Portuguese and Brazilian influence that marks the region. This monographic issue details works of all scales and materials, from an urban waterfront revitalisation to city centre high-rises, each realised in the dense and sprawling capital. The architects’ belief in open projects, anchored in local cultures and rooted in collective life and public space, leads to a globally connected, critical practice.

Résumé:
Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has one of the most important buildings of the 20th century: its parliamentary building by Louis I. Kahn constructed between 1961 and 1982. Little is known, however, about the local architecture scene that has emerged since then. Yet contemporary architecture in Bangladesh exhibits a strong formal idiom that has its roots in tradition and is combined with an innovative handling of local resources such as bamboo and brick. Alongside texts by Andreas Ruby, Niklaus Graber, Kazi Khaleed, Saif Ul Haque and Syed Manzoorul Islam, the special photographs taken by Iwan Baan for this publication capture the imagination.

Résumé:
Curating has evolved into much more than creating interesting exhibitions, promoting artists, and selling artwork. Art worlds have fused with business worlds and transformed capitalism from the inside out. To "curate capitalism" implies new ways of management that go far beyond the simple commercialization of art and artist. Today, art and the artist inspire business. While some of "Curating capitalism" can be traced back to the German Artist Joseph Beuys’ declaration that Art=Capital and American Andy Warhol’s vision of a capitalistic "Business Art," it takes the insights of independent curators to upscale and intellectually articulate these ideas.

Résumé:
This publication traces the emergence of the valuation of nature. The book by the artist duo Cooking Sections unpacks forms of dispossession that are becoming more common through the protection—not only destruction—of natural environments. Through a series of artistic and architectural interventions, The book ties into current struggles for climate justice worldwide, contesting neoliberalism as a savior of its own ecological contradictions. It challenges conservation models based on “natural capital,” while proposing new spatial tactics to de-financialize the environment. Besides a photographic documentary and the works by Cooking Sections, the book assembles numerous contributions by interdisciplinary artists and scientists.

For this instalment of the Subjective Atlas series, a group of almost 40 creative residents mapped the contemporary identity of Kaunas through their personal interests, experiences, and domesticity, visualising the heritage and history of Lithuania’s second-largest city. The book highlights a surprising collection of urban, natural, and everyday spaces and artefacts, inviting readers to reflect on how this material and immaterial modernist heritage is perceived or observed, appreciated or disliked, ignored or associated with.
