How do we dwell lightly? From private homes to communal spaces, rural Japan to European sites, a deep sensitivity to place, memory, and the human body is revealed. Projects like House in a Forest, Pilotis in a Forest, and House in Komazawa explore lightness, nature, and structural clarity. The Yoshino Cedar House merges domesticity and community under one roof, while urban works like Apartment in Nerima and House in Gotanda reimagine domestic life in dense cities.

Résumé:
This issue introduces the most recent works by three Korean architects: Seung H-Sang, Byoungsoo Cho, and Heesoo Kwak. Four critics travelled across Korea to visit three buildings and interview the architects in person. Also featured are reviews of five communal buildings that are intended to be shared and enjoyed by their communities. Each is set in a tranquil location and has its own personality. Finally, the issue investigates the hybrid nature of large community complex buildings, vertical towns that provide one-stop service systems. Clearly, with the acceleration of urbanisation, the position of architects in small rural towns versus mega-cities tends to differ greatly.

Résumé:
The book takes us from the fells of the Lake District to the uplands of Northumberland; from the streetscapes of industrial Manchester to the heart of London. This panoramic journey reveals the significance, not only of the physical characteristics of landscapes, but also of the sense of the past, collective memories and cultural traditions that give these places their meaning. Between the late eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, Englishness extended far beyond the pastoral idyll of chocolate-box thatched cottages, waving fields of corn and quaint country churches. It was found in diverse locations - urban as well as rural, north as well as south - and it took strikingly diverse forms.

Résumé:
The exhibition ''The Architect is Present'' shows the work of five influential international studios who have turned austerity into their ethic and aesthetic motto. With offices located in five continents, these young architects work in underprivileged contexts, proving that scarcity of means can stimulate technical inventiveness and community participation, and become the basis for a responsible architecture where the vocation of service does not exclude beauty and emotion. From Norway and Germany to Burkina Faso, and from Paraguay to Australia passing through India or Thailand, these studios have built housing, rural schools or social centers with an extraordinary economy of means, admirable adaptation to collective needs and exemplary material execution.

Résumé:
Winding its way southward through the Philadelphia communities of Chestnut Hill and Mount Airy, as well as the verdant rural countryside of Gwynedd, Whitemarsh, and Wyndmoor, the Wissahickon Creek flows through a region of both unsurpassed natural beauty and some of the nation’s most exquisite residential architecture. The marvelous landscape that attracted early travelers and settlers became the setting for glorious estates that celebrated the connection between the natural and the built environment. From the mid-19th through the mid-20th century, three generations of prominent regional and national architects designed houses that have endured as magnificent examples of their own time, and remain eminently livable homes to this day.

Résumé:
This book on urban design extends and develops the widely accepted 'compact city' solution. It provides a design proposal for a new kind of sustainable urban landscape: Urban Agriculture. By growing food within an urban rather than exclusively rural environment, urban agriculture would reduce the need for industrialized production, packaging and transportation of foodstuffs to the city dwelling consumers. The revolutionary and innovative concepts put forth in this book have potential to shape the future of our cities quality of life within them. Urban design is shown in practice through international case studies and the arguments presented are supported by quantified economic, environmental and social justifications.

Résumé:
Photographer Stefan Canham has visited the provincial town of Sapa in northern Vietnam repeatedly since 2011. Speaking with women from the surrounding mountain villages, he became obsessed with the small rectangular patches of cloth they were selling. Cut from traditional jackets and embroidered in abstract geometric patterns indicating the wearer’s village, the patches have become objects in transition between rural customs and international tourism. The town itself is also in transition: scores of slender new houses with eclectic facades are being erected, catering to the influx of tourists. Canham explores these two significant facets of material culture in a carefully thought out artist’s book.

This issue is devoted to Swiss architecture and features three practices based in the north of the country, in Fribourg, Basel, and Winterthur; respectively, Deschenaux Architects, Felippi Wyssen, and Marazzi Reinhardt. The first was founded in 2016 and operates in an area where the identity is still very rural, making the office sensitive to the varied local topographies and constructive honesty. The second was founded in 2009 and has since developed work in a range of scales and tasks, from new buildings to urban planning. The third practice started in 2004 and, strongly characterised by a personal interest in craftsmanship, is known for carefully considered but powerful interventions.
