Résumé:
Book with recent photographic work by Uta Eisenreich, focussing on the shortcomings of our cognitive tool-kit. A NOT B walks us along the fine line between common sense and uncommon nonsense in a realm reminiscent of pre-school books, assessment tests and optical illusions. Uta Eisenreich is fascinated by the attempt to establish order within an inconsistent reality that constantly exceeds the borders of comprehension. She photographs ever-changing combinations of elementary objects arranged by basic methods of classification. From one image to the next, the meaning of things keeps transforming. A web of clues and associations is spun, triggering the viewer to discern underlying patterns and make sense of the illusory correlations of a-logical connections. Design by Julia Born.

Résumé:
Hargreaves Associates has been at the forefront of landscape architectural practice since its founding in 1983, creating a narrative approach to landscape architecture that layers history, ecology, and environmental phenomena. Whether reductive or rich, highly programmed or passive, culturally interpretive or teeming with the phenomena of nature’s own systems, the built landscapes of Hargreaves Associates emphasize the power of connection to day-to-day life. This volume presents projects from throughout the 25-year history of the firm and highlights the firm's role in advancing the reoccupation of postindustrial sites, including the reclamation of waterfronts within the United States, Europe, and Australia. Featuring color photographs and illustrations throughout, the book also shows how the firm works with cultural landscapes, urban parks, smaller plazas, and gardens. Included are details on Hargreaves' innovative entries in recent landscape architectural competitions, including its stunning design of a 270-acre Victorian-style pleasure garden for the 2012 London Olympics.

Résumé:
A number of young designers in Europe and America are attempting to develop their own paths in exploring graphic design through innovative small-scale practices. Many of the designers featured here were born in the 1970s and 1980s, coming of age in commercial practice in the digital environment. The majority of those featured operate within the sphere of graphic design production from the approach of a more personal practice, inflecting their work with nuanced, idiosyncratic conceptual and formal approaches. While widely varied due to cultural context and social/environmental differences, all have a kinship in unique approaches to developing formal options for clients. The use of the word "option" as applied here is perhaps the most relevant key point for the latest wave of graphic design from abroad- perhaps the "solution" as an end result of graphic design as a process is a dead methodology. What are instead offered are graphic "options" in lieu of "solutions"- inquiries answered with inquiries, questions answered with questions. The work featured offers playful, tentative answers instead of cold, hard end results.

"Things of beauty growing" explores major typologies of the vessel—such as bowl, vase, and charger—that have defined studio ceramics since the early 20th century. It places British studio pottery within the context of objects from Europe, Japan, and Korea and presents essays by an international team of scholars and experts. The book highlights the objects themselves, including new works by Adam Buick, Halima Cassell, and Nao Matsunago, featured alongside works by William Staite Murray, Lucie Rie, Edmund de Waal, and others, many published here for the first time. Rounding out the beautifully illustrated volume is an interview with renowned collector John Driscoll and approximately fifty illustrated short biographies of significant makers.

Résumé:
The fifteen years in Germany between the end of World War I and the National Socialists’ rise to power in 1933 stand out as one of the twentieth century’s most tumultuous periods. These years of political and economic upheaval famously spawned significant and lasting changes in the arts. However, one noteworthy product of Weimar Germany’s booming cultural life has escaped significant critical attention : the photo essay. The Photography of Crisis examines narrative photography and creates a snapshot of where Germany was after World War I and what it would become with the rise of National Socialism. By reading Weimar photo essays within their historical and literary context, Daniel Magilow shows how German photographers intervened in modernity’s key political and philosophical debates regarding the changing notions of nature, culture, personal identity, and national identity.

In ''Tbilisi Interiors'', photographer Anna Tsitsishvili returns to the subject that defined her acclaimed debut, Tbilisi, with a renewed and intimate focus. This follow-up photobook shifts the lens inward—literally—inviting us beyond the façades of the Georgian capital to explore the layered and often surprising worlds within. Where her first book captured the textured urban landscapes of Tbilisi’s streets and architecture, ''Tbilisi Interiors'' reveals the hidden lives behind closed doors: eclectic rooms filled with faded grandeur, modest apartments shaped by decades of personal history, and spaces that quietly tell stories of resilience, creativity, and cultural continuity. Through Tsitsishvili’s eye, interiors become portraits—of individuals, families, and the city itself. This collection is not merely about design or decor; it is an emotional and aesthetic mapping of Tbilisi’s soul. With sensitivity and an artist’s sense of composition, Tsitsishvili documents spaces both curated and chaotic, refined and improvised, capturing the poetry of everyday life in Georgia’s capital.Tbilisi Interiors is a love letter to a city in transition, seen from within. With sensitivity and an artist’s sense of composition, Tsitsishvili documents spaces both curated and chaotic, refined and improvised, capturing the poetry of everyday life in Georgia’s capital.

Résumé:
Renowned philosopher Susan Buck-Morss collaborates with Kevin McCaughey of Boot Boyz Biz and Adam Michaels of Inventory Press on this experimental image-text renewal of McLuhan, Berger and Benjamin. "Seeing <—> Making: Room for thought" both studies and presents the creative process of constructing ideas with images. By activating the techniques of montage and analogy, the book reveals a wide field of view and a space to engage new critical connections between a multiplicity of objects from the past and present. Realized through an intergenerational collaboration of three cultural producers committed to making theory visible, a transformative anthology of critical essays by Susan Buck-Morss anchors this kaleidoscopic project. Images and ideas sync with Buck-Morss’ perceptive texts on visual culture, history, politics and aesthetics, fusing criticism with visual play and linking collective imagination and social action. In both design and content, "Seeing <—> Making: Room for thought" builds upon the dynamic sensorium of Marshall McLuhan and Quentin Fiore's book "The medium is the massage", Walter Benjamin's "Arcades" Project and John Berger's "Ways of seeing". This innovative volume brings Buck-Morss’ more experimental, visually engaged work to the fore in a way that has not been available in the usual contexts within which her writing has appeared.

Résumé:
Starting with the refurbishment of his own apartment in 1903, twenty of Loos’s most significant buildings are displayed : Villa Karma, the Kärntner Bar, the Goldman & Salatsch Michaelerplatz Building, the Zentralsparkasse Bank, and the Steiner, Scheu, Moller, and Müller houses. Schezen’s vivid color and luminous black-and-white photographs display each building in detail, showing both the formal characteristics and the rich textures and materials Loos most frequently used. Complementing this visual material is Kenneth Frampton’s perceptive essay, which places Loos within the context of Viennese intellectuals of the time. His circle, which included Arnold Schönberg, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and at the center, Karl Kraus, explored the essential nature of architecture, and the other arts and sciences, through linguistic structures. Frampton identifies the hallmarks that Loos derived from these structures and with which he created his work : the blank, "degree-zero" exterior with its luxurious interior; his commentary on architecture’s position between art and function, plus subtle recollections of both the classic and the vernacular. All these ploys were to subvert typical architectural expectations. Joseph Rosa’s accompanying descriptions comprehensively discuss each building, from the circumstances surrounding the realization of the projects to the use of Loos’s architectural conventions.

Résumé:
An ongoing program of temporary structures designed by internationally acclaimed architects, The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion for 2009 was designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, of the leading Japanese architecture practice SANAA. Sejima and Nishizawa created a stunning structure that resembles a reflective cloud or a pool of water, sitting atop a series of delicate columns. The metal roof varies in height, wrapping itself around the trees in the park and sweeping down almost to the ground in some places. Open and ephemeral in structure, its reflective materials allow it to sit seamlessly within the natural environment, reflecting both the park and sky. “It works as a field of activity with no walls,” say Sejima and Nishizawa. This publication documents the conception, construction and life of this impressive temporary structure.
