Résumé:
"Isolated Houses" focuses on the outer frontier of Los Angeles where, 150 miles beyond the city, the built environment comprises a handful of rudimentary structures. The dwellings that dot the landscape seem temporary, even toylike. The work pays homage to those places where nature and culture intersect.

Résumé:
Hong Kong’s border with Shenzhen is dissolving. By 2047, the border will likely not exist. Integration with the Mainland will remove distinctions created by the "One Country Two Systems" policy. The uncertainty surrounding what will happen has created anxiety relating to law, identity, freedom of speech, and voting rights. Caught in this debate is the Frontier Closed Area, a 1951 undeveloped buffer zone of estuaries, fish farms, forests, villages and military posts. In contrast, Shenzhen, has exploded into a metropolis of 15 million plus. The book explores this unique border ecology. Design strategies inserted within this ecology promote alternate forms of development. The example widens the discourse on borders to raise critical issues that impact the contemporary city.

Résumé:
This publication reports the results of a research conducted in close collaboration with members of the work table on the Autoroute 20 international gateway corridor for Montreal-Trudeau Airport (YUL) to the downtown core (MTL). This unique research demonstrates the importance of creative engagement in collaborative local and regional planning processes. The book illustrates how the results of an international ideas competition and an urban design workshop have united stakeholders’ viewpoints, and allow for implementation of a strategic development vision. As an outcome of the research, the design guidelines are now an essential tool for the redevelopment of a major highway entrances to the City of Montreal.

An introduction to the work of Gabriele Basilico (b.1944), one of the most important European landscape photographers of our time. His work captures the city in its quiet, empty moments, almost as if some disaster had driven away the population – the buildings remain lasting testaments to the society that created them. Basilico has extensively chronicled the lesser-known parts of his own native country as well as travelling widely throughout Northern Europe, bringing his Italian sensibility and melding it with the peculiarities of the Northern landscape.

Résumé:
''tOUR'' brings together Olivo Barbieri’s aerial photographs of contemporary Italy with selected illustrations from the Malatestiana Library in Cesena. The book creates a dialogue between past and present, revealing the landscape as a layered mix of times, perspectives, and languages. Barbieri’s images expose a complex, sometimes enigmatic territory where human intervention intersects with historical patterns, while the library’s ancient maps, city views, and monument depictions serve as a counterpoint. Together, they reflect on how Italy’s landscape has been shaped, layered, and transformed over time.

Résumé:
Made from prefabricated concrete panels, Plattenbauten rose from the ruins of Berlin, providing a quick and inexpensive solution to the severe housing shortage faced by the city after World War II. Although criticized in their day for their sterility and impersonal scale, they nonetheless became an integral part of the city. Drawn from his extensive investigations into Berlin’s urban landscape, Jesse Simon’s texts and photographs offer a convincing argument for the aesthetic and social value of buildings that were once described as “eyesores.”

Résumé:
Conceived as an experiment that would apply the new "science" of city planning to a suburban setting, Forest Hills Gardens was created by the Russell Sage Foundation to provide housing for middle-class commuters as an alternative to cramped flats in New York City. Although it has long been recognized as one of the most influential planned communities in the United States, this is the first time Forest Hills Gardens has been the subject of a book. Susan L. Klaus's fully illustrated history chronicles the creation of the 142-acre development from its inception in 1909 through its first two decades, offering critical insights into American planning history, landscape architecture, and the social and economic forces that shaped housing in the Progressive Era. Klaus focuses particularly on the creative genius of Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., who served as planner and landscape architect for the project. Drawing on his father's visionary ideas but developing his own perspective, the younger Olmsted redefined planning for the modern era and became one of the founders of the profession of city planning in the United States.
