Résumé:
The IFCCA Prize Competition for the Design of Cities fonds primarily documents the activities involved in the organization and realization of the Prize Competition, as well as the most active years of the IFCCA. The fonds is made up of primarily of textual documents dating from 1992 to 2001. The Prize Competition challenged architects from around the world to rethink and redesign a site on the western edge of Manhattan, New York City, New York. Five finalists were chosen by a jury of well known figures in the architecture field, and given four months to complete their proposals. Peter Eisenman, Peter Eisenman Architects, New York City, was declared the winner on 28 June 1999. Two exhibitions of the work of the finalists, in New York City (1999, with an accompanying colloquium) and at the CCA in Montreal (2000-2001) followed the Prize Competition.

Description:
This subseries documents Kenneth Frampton’s writing of “Studies in Tectonic Culture: The Poetics of Construction in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Architecture” (1995) as well as his other writings related to tectonics such as course materials for the “Studies in Tectonic Culture” seminar at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) and some research materials on tectonics. Kenneth Frampton's research interest in tectonics began with four lectures he gave at Rice University in Texas in the 1980s. The lectures focused on the work of Louis Kahn, Mies van der Rohe, Auguste Perret, and Jørn Urzon. This research interest later became a book and teaching project in the early 1990s. Textual documentation in this subseries consists of contracts, book reviews, abstracts, correspondence, drafts for various chapters, notes, selected photographic materials for the publication and various articles on tectonics (written by others). Course outlines, course readers, lecture slides, student papers, and midterm exams from the Studies in Tectonic Culture seminar at GSAPP are also included in this subseries.

Description:
File documents a consultancy project for the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, for site planning and phased improvements for the campus. The project delineates zones for landscaping, pedestrian and vehicular circulation patterns, passive and active recreation areas, and building types. A plan showing existing conditions also shows new construction and a phasing scheme. This plan has a plastic overlay and is mounted on a panel of press board, and was possibly used for presentation purposes. Existing conditions material includes panoramas of the campus (montages of photographs), and existing plans of the campus and surrounding area. Conceptual sketches are drawn on top of photocopied photographs of the campus in coloured crayon, and are annotated with notes by Price which address the landscaping and walkway embellishments intended to enhance the experience of circulating between buildings. Material in this file was produced in 1980. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, reference drawings, a panel, photographic materials, and textual records.
