Résumé:
Standing on the property line between two apartment buildings with adjacent driveways, American photographer Thomas Locke Hobbs was reminded of a Renaissance painting, ''The Ideal City of Urbino'', where the illusion of space is achieved when receding lines that establish spatial relationships converge at a central vanishing point. It inspired his book ‘L.A. Vedute’, a documentary study of domestic architecture in Los Angeles. The work presents the way shared spaces recede to a common vanishing point, largely unpopulated and deserted, akin to movie sets where the actors have disappeared. Through metaphors of alienation, Hobbs exposes a city in conflict and coexistence.

Résumé:
The new "A.MAG Long Collection" presents a single project by a single architect in a special graphic design format that distinguishes it from other collections the magazine publishes. Each instalment will document works of different scales and formal contexts. This unique selection of projects which establish new paradigms in architecture begins with David Adjaye’s Mole House. The derelict property in the London borough of Hackney, made infamous by a landlord who incessantly tunnelled underneath it without a permit, was completely renovated by the architect as a three-storey live/work space that also serves as a single-family dwelling for artist Sue Weber.

Résumé:
Moving beyond the usual forms endemic to the graphic design canon, "Designing history" studies bureaucratic instruments such as money, passports, certificates, property deeds and more. Such documents produce identity, assign ownership and ascribe value. They stabilize claims, memory and knowledge that would otherwise be vulnerable to contestation or obliteration. Despite their apparent banality, such documents are perhaps graphic design’s most profoundly consequential forms. This book is the revised edition of "Immutable: Designing history" (2022). It includes an extended essay that contextualizes the project as one concerned primarily with prompting a remapping of graphic design’s historical and practical assumptions.

Résumé:
Materialism continues the commitment of our first two issues on Property and Service to examine foundational yet overlooked concepts in architecture and landscape architecture. In our estimation, these disciplines are haunted by materialism. We see its specular presence invoked in design research’s emphasis on large-scale flows and sites of material production, in the renewed focus on ‘performance’ and the rehabilitation of functionalism, in the centrality of ‘material’ as an expressive layer of tectonics, and through the import of non-human actors into discussions about spatial design. Each of the above invokes matter as its base.

Résumé:
Simpson describes the transformation of America from wilderness into an agrarian and suburban landscape as the nation expanded westward after the Revolution. He highlights the role of influential people in this transformation and the critical policies and programs they used to acquire, survey, and dispose of the public domain. He shows how their actions reflected changes in our traditional values that considered land as property and a commodity primarily for functional use. This transformation in values has yielded a landscape of contradictions: it is at once a landscape of freedom and opportunity, order and disorder, permanence and transience.

Résumé:
Having just purchased her first home, the poet and essayist now embarks on a provocative exploration of the value system she has bought into. Through a series of engaging exchanges - in libraries and laundromats, over barstools and backyard fences - she examines our assumptions about class and property and the ways we internalize the demands of capitalism.Biss offers an uncommonly immersive and deeply revealing new portrait of work and luxury, of accumulation and consumption, of the value of time and how we spend it. Ranging from IKEA to Beyoncé to Pokemon, Biss asks, of both herself and her class, 'In what have we invested?'
