Résumé:
Chow offers an alternate vision to the conventional suburban housing that characterizes much of our domestic landscape. Her integrated, original approach to design sees the residential setting as a fabric of interrelated spaces that supports cultural diversity and change, promotes sharing in a setting, and sustains a more intense use of land. With its concise, informative text and illustrations--including photographs and Chow's drawings--"Suburban space" challenges architects, landscape architects, developers, and planners to reconceptualize suburban housing. Chow has made comparative studies of neighborhoods in Boston, Charleston, San Francisco, Levittown, Radburn, and housing by Rudolf Schindler and Irving Gill, as well as other residential settings. Her argument for a fabric of dwelling is founded not on generalizations about how people live but on documented observations of the particular ways in which people organize their daily lives. This book demonstrates how one of the most disparaged yet common types of housing in the United States can become more environmentally and culturally viable.

Résumé:
Here Longstreth explores the early development of two kinds of retail space that have become ubiquitous in the United States in the second half of the twentieth century. One, external, is devoted to the circulation and parking of automobiles on retail premises. Longstreth analyzes the origins of this development in the 1910s and 1920s, with the super service station and then the drive-in market. The other type of space, internal, was introduced soon thereafter with the single-story supermarket. The most innovative aspect of the supermarket was how its interior was designed for high-volume turnover of a large selection of goods with a minimum of staff assistance. Longstreth focuses on Los Angeles, the principal center for the development of both kinds of space, during the period from the mid-1910s to the early 1940s. This richly illustrated study integrates architectural, cultural, economic, and urban factors to describe the evolution of retailing and how it has affected the urban landscape.

Résumé:
Space influences us and we influence space. Within the infinite ''space of possibilities'' of architecture, PPAG architects are permanently searching for relevance and social utility, tracking down the architectural expression of the respective society, the ''necessary new'' in all its complexity. The exhibition is a plea for an unbiased, brave look at architecture and urban development. A view that sees development as a necessity, even if it surprises and irritates at first glance. Especially in view of the current global challenges, we need the courage to take alternative paths. The office's work is based on trust in the collective planning abilities; on the fact that through intensive engagement and thinking ahead, solutions can be found for a good future for all of us. The diversity of the''‘space of possibilities'' is presented in a special way in the exhibition of PPAG architects at the Aedes Architecture Forum. The projects presented push the boundaries and exhaust their realm, regardless of typology, scale, age, price range or realisation – in Ecuador, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Yakutsk, Vienna or Berlin.

Résumé:
''The Right to Nature'' is a new chapter of reflection and work of the AG greenscape, centered on the current and renewed relationship between man and nature, and the consequent transformation of our cities through new ways of living, inhabiting, working with nature and the landscape as the protagonist, in every area, at all project scales, as a social balancer and activator of a new urban sociality. The relationship between man and nature today is an urgent issue in the debate on the contemporary city, but it still has to be truly explored, defined, and built. Throughout seven main topics – Green and blue infrastructures, Regeneration, Public space, Dwelling, Green welfare, Heritage, and Care –, the book explores contemporary urban landscape issues at the different scales of the project, in the light of the relationship between human beings and nature.

Résumé:
"The city assembled" continues Kostof's unique study of urban landscape and process. Moving from the historical and cultural overviews of the city in a earlier book, Kostof descends into the streets, sidewalks, squares, markets, and waterfronts of the city and presents a detailed urban anatomy. The book is organized thematically around the structural phenomena of the city-the city edge, street, public space, the marketplace, and the realities of cultural and ecomomic segregation-and explores the customs, practicalities, and biases behind the elements of the city. In every instance, Professor Kostof follows a far-ranging story up to the present to illustrate how fresh the discussion remains today. In the past, the various elements of a city evolved in response to a variety of pressures. Today, they are usually the result of planning decisions. In a final chapter, Kostof considers 'urban process' "the effect on cities of natural disasters, wars, and comprehensive redevelopment" compared with incremental growth and change. His book is thus an exercise in architectural and social history, a case study for the present, and a pointer for the future. The story is also told in over three hundred drawings, prints, paintings, and photographs that illustrate not only typical elements of a city but also specific uses of particular elements.
