Résumé:
This issue focusses on refurbishments, rehabilitations, and additions. And these need not be associated with converting the building to a new use: many interventions also improve upon existing concepts. Following the restructuring by Studio Marco Vermeulen, the museum in De Biesbosch, a nature sancturay in the Netherlands, flows seemlessly into the surrounding polder landscape. And the historic Fondaco dei Tedeschi on the Canal Grande in Venice – which OMA has renovated for use as a high-end department store – has always been a platform for commerce. An interview with Reinier de Graaf gives a glimpse of the philosophy that lies behind the Office for Metropolitan Architecture’s refurbishment projects.

Résumé:
Published in conjunction with the Korean Pavilion’s exhibition at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, this volume reflects on the 30-year history of the Korean Pavilion and re-examines the vision of sustainability and the architectural presence of the national pavilion in the face of geopolitical shifts. The interplay between temporariness and liveability of the pavilion is seen through the gaze of the “little toad” from a popular Korean children’s folk song. The exhibition examines architectural value and regeneration through the exchange of old and new. The pavilion is seen as a "house of exhibitions" where memories and narratives accumulate.

Albert Halaban works with local residents to stage and collaborate on each portrait, and through her lens, the viewer is welcomed into the private lives of ordinary Italian people. Résumé:
Once only a vague metaphor to describe the relationship between different social groups, the term “social distance” has acquired a precise meaning during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is the mandatory minimum distance for face-to-face contact between persons, and can vary slightly depending on the jurisdiction. Rather than asserting a diagnosis of our contemporary global emergency, this issue offers perspectives from architectural history and theory. From the great plague of Venice to cholera in the industrialising city, and from the human placenta to the 1960s bubble or the office of today, here a broad range of reflections on contagion, disease, and health can be found.

Résumé:
Emergency Exit, the installation exposed and explored in this full-color book, merges the disciplines of architecture and art within a collaborative dialogue between artists Agnieszka Kurant and Aleksandra Wasilkowska, who represented Poland with this project at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice in 2010. In their essay, the artists present the ideas behind Emergency Exit and the concept of ''urban portable holes,'' and such artifacts as Utopian Ruins and Fictional Sports. An archive of reference images, theories, films, and documents inspire and support their work within expanding and interrelated subjects; critics add commentary, and Hans Ulrich Obrist conducts a dual interview with Kurant and Wasilkowska.

Résumé:
Spanish architects Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano are perhaps best recognised for the tunnel-like glass office they work from in the woods outside Madrid, but this special instalment casts its net more widely to cover the duo’s practice during the last decade. Besides an interview with the architects by Enrique Walker and essays by Ryue Nishizawa and the architects themselves, the pages feature more than 20 notable projects. From 55 dwellings in Amsterdam, Casa La Canaria and an eyewear shop in Cartagena, to their contribution at the 13th Venice Biennale and the renovation of Texas Square in Oranjestad, the projects are colourful, varied and, above all, imaginative.
