Against the pernicious machinations of modern-day capitalism and a perverse optimism that sustains it, ''Disconsolate Dreamers'' explores the extent to which pessimism is compatible with a radical utopian goal - namely, a collective escape from the misery of modern existence. It shows that, in a thoroughly hopeless world devoid of rational alternatives, it is time for the Left to consider the pessimist a helpful guide out of the somnolence of capitalist realism, revealing how pessimism necessitates a radical revision of utopian alterity.

Résumé:
Going beyond tensions between individuals and institutions, this volume examines avenues for engaged pedagogies, collective learning, and artistic ecologies that can engender new institutionalities. If learning for life is emancipation—understood as a matter not just of power but of freedom—the essential question that emerges is: What knowledge makes us free, and how can institutions help produce it? In search of an answer, this publication’s textual and visual contributions explore sites and practices through which new artistic ecosystems can emerge.

Résumé:
Sky Hopinka's ''Perfidia'' moves within the textured landscape of memory, both personal and collective, to address the founding colonial violence of the United States and its lasting impact. In a series of cantos, the book-length poem surfaces a first-person narrative amidst the stream of history and its accounting through the voices of ancestors and kin. Shifting registers between the embodied and the spiritual, ''Perfidia's'' subjective syntax destabilizes entrenched colonial perspectives and concomitant descriptions of land, sky, sea, myth, place, and personhood.

Résumé:
In a changing world everyone designs: each individual person and each collective subject, from enterprises to institutions, from communities to cities and regions, must define and enhance a life project. Sometimes these projects generate unprecedented solutions; sometimes they converge on common goals and realize larger transformations. As Ezio Manzini describes in this book, we are witnessing a wave of social innovations as these changes unfold—an expansive open co-design process in which new solutions are suggested and new meanings are created.
