For this volume, over forty internationally renowned architects and educators—from Peter Eisenman and the late Zaha Hadid to Rafael Moneo and Cesar Pelli—were asked to list the top 100 twentieth-century architectural projects they would teach to students. The contributors were encouraged to select built projects where formal, spatial, technological, and organizational concepts responded to dynamic historical, cultural, social, and political circumstances. The capacity of these buildings to resist, adapt, and invent new typologies solidifies their timeless relevance to future challenges.

Résumé:
Between 1977 and 1987, a sluggish world economy that all but curtailed new building moved the most talented architects into teaching positions. In the academic environment, graphic experimentation proliferated and architects encountered an intellectual scene filled with passionate debates about philosophy, criticism, and social thought. This set the stage for an eruption of "paper architecture" of incomparable beauty and depth. Perfect Acts of Architecture identifies the preeminent achievements of five architects working during that turbulent period: Peter Eisenman, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind, Thom Mayne, and Bernard Tschumi. Catalogue of the exhibition at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

The influence of his writing on more recent scholarly work is also addressed. The book includes previously unpublished essays and interviews with key protagonists, among them Peter Eisenman and Kenneth Frampton, who have enjoyed intellectual exchanges with Baird. Résumé:
Magali Larson's comprehensive study explores how architecture "happens" and what has become of the profession in the postmodern era. Drawing from extensive interviews with pivotal architects—from Philip Johnson, who was among the first to introduce European modernism to America, to Peter Eisenman, identified with a new "deconstructionist" style—she analyzes the complex tensions that exist between economic interest, professional status, and architectural product. She investigates the symbolic awards and recognition accorded by prestigious journals and panels, exposing the inner workings of a profession in a precarious social position. Larson captures the struggles around status, place, and power as architects seek to redefine their very purpose in contemporary America.

Résumé:
While the first half of the 20th century in architecture was, to a large extent, characterized by innovations in aesthetics (accompanied by succinct and polemical manifestoes), the post-war decades saw emerge a more refined and intellectual disciplinary framework that eventually metamorphosed into the highly theory-focused moment of the 'postmodern'. Colin Frederick Rowe (1920 - 1999) was a leader of this epistemic shift due to his aptitude to connect his historical and philosophical erudition to the visual analysis of architecture. This book unites ten different perspectives from architects whose lives and ideas intersected with Rowe’s, including: Robert Maxwell, Anthony Vidler, Peter Eisenman, O. Mathias Ungers, Léon Krier, Rem Koolhaas, Alan Colquhoun, Robert Slutzky, Bernhard Hoesli and Bernard Tschumi.
