Featuring a total of more than 25 small-scale domestic projects categorised based on location, together the volumes form an intriguing report on how predominantly young Japanese architects approach challenging contexts and highly restricted urban sites. Résumé:
The city is where Italian radical architecture represented and experimented its theories. While the early projects remained theoretical proposals, some contributions by Archizoom, Superstudio, or Strum established an ambiguous relationship with design that became crucial after the international exhibition "Italy: the new domestic landscape", curated by Emilio Ambasz at the Museum of Modern Art New York in 1972. With the exception of Zziggurat, all participants, such as UFO, Gianni Pettena, Ugo La Pietra and 9999, chose the "piazza" - the public space - for their theoretical and practical experimentation as the adequate venue for installations and performances that used the same language as that of artists.

Résumé:
Throughout the twentieth century, housing displays have proven to be a singular genre of architectural and design exhibitions. By crossing geographies and adopting multiple scales of observation – from domestic space to urban visions – this volume investigates a set of unexplored events devoted to housing and dwelling, organised by technical, professional, cultural or governmental institutions from the interwar years to the Cold War. The book offers a first critical assessment of twentieth-century housing exhibits and explores the role of exhibitions in the codification of notions of domesticity, social models, policies, and architectural and urban discourse. At the intersection of housing studies and the history of exhibitions, ''The Housing Project'' not only offers a novel angle on architectural history but also enriches scholarly perspectives in urban studies, cultural and media history, design, and consumption studies.

Résumé:
The dollhouse is both subversive and seductive. Dollhouses provide a microcosmic view of the world and preserve vanished aspects of daily life and culture. But they also present an idealized version of life, sometimes airbrushing out the more basic and functional elements of everyday living. This new volume uses the dollhouse’s contradictions to explore interior design, new technology, professions, and family relationships, considering such topics as the role of the domestic servant and the gendering of spaces and household roles. The V Museum of Childhood’s collection of dollhouses, representing homes and ways of living spanning three and a half centuries, provides the backdrop for these tales.

Résumé:
Everyman's Castle restores people to the panorama of domestic architecture. Philippa Lewis turns an affectionate eye to the characteristics of British types of houses - cottages, farmhouses, semi-detached, suburban, flats, terraces, bungalows, country houses - and charts their rise and fall. How were they perceived when they were built, and what happened to them subsequently? How were the interior spaces used and altered over time? This books provides insight to all these questions, even what sort of message the design of a house sends about the inhabitants, from stairs up to the front door (implying servants living below) in a Victorian terrace to bay windows (implying private ownership) in the twentieth century.

Résumé:
Light is a powerful force for design inspiration. From the mundane to the bizarre, the strictly functional to the wildly ostentatious, a panoply of objects has been created in response to the desire for artificial illumination. This first title in the V Contemporary Series explores the exciting range of new lighting forms and technologies from the archetypal domestic lamp to innovations in lighted clothing. It features a range of internationally renowned designers, from Ron Arad to Karim Rashid. Covering products from the one-off to the mass-produced, it also charts crossovers in design practice, incorporating textiles, fashion and ceramics as well as product design and new technological developments. New materials which pulse and glow, alternative means of power conduction which negate the need for wires, heat resistant fabrics and "cool" light sources all offer new and exciting opportunities to designers. This book introduces some of the most innovative names in contemporary lighting and explores the significance of light in the designed environment.

Résumé:
For over a decade, Brooklyn-based architecture firm SO–IL has been envisioning houses and other projects in between and adjacent to domestic spaces. Reflecting on the state of housing design today, often constrained by pressures of production, SO–IL approaches these projects with generous experimentation. They adapt and adjust the architectural and physical "body languages" of domesticity while operating through the framing and occupation of liminal spaces. The projects featured in "In Depth" represent SO-IL’s attempt to "hack" the codes, cores, courts and corridors; to stretch and inhabit "inefficiencies"; to turn the old stones and bring fragments of buried treasures from the past into the present; to question if housing for all should be the yardstick for the shelters of our souls; and to ask the future generations what kind of home we should design for them.

Résumé:
This retrospective of the oeuvre of Petra Blaisse and her acclaimed studio Inside Outside presents a kaleidoscopic view of their work across interior, exhibition, and landscape design over the course of more than three decades. Rather than working solely on static buildings, Inside Outside design environments across a huge variety of scales, from expansive urban landscapes to intimate domestic spaces defined by soft textile walls. The resulting spaces defy conventional classification. This comprehensive survey encompasses renowned projects including the recently completed Taipei Performing Arts Center; the Kunsthal Rotterdam; Biblioteca degli Alberi in Milan, a park spanning almost ten hectares; and LocHal Library in Tilburg, a vast factory repurposed using an architecture of semi-translucent curtains. It also presents revelatory unrealised projects and explores the studio’s many collaborations, including the rich body of work produced with OMA since the late 1980s.
