Résumé:
These 42 photographs and two film installations by contemporary American artist Dawoud Bey contemplate the harrowing journeys and human realities of the Virginia slave trail, Louisiana plantations, and Ohio’s Underground Railroad. "Dawoud Bey: Elegy" premieres a trilogy that includes Bey’s most recent series of never-before-seen photographs taken in Richmond and commissioned by VMFA. Internationally renowned for his Harlem street scenes and expressive portraits, Bey, in these landscapes, meditates on place as profound repository of memory and witness to American history. In this immersive and transportive exhibition, his works poetically imply a human presence, deepening our understanding of African American experiences rarely represented in collective US history.

Humanity has always excluded Others on the basis of race and gender. What happens to people who choose to flee, following in the footsteps of those who resisted enslavement? This audacious manifesto draws on the legacies of bell hooks, Audre Lorde, Angela Davis and others to consider the ways in which Black women have been excluded from, struggled to achieve and opted to reject the category of ‘human’. Sociologist Akwugo Emejulu argues that it is only through embracing the status of the ‘fugitive’ that Black women can determine their own liberation. ''Fugitive Feminism'' is a call for the collective process of speculative dialogue and a bold new model for action.

Résumé:
The fourth edition of the Chapters series by Belgian architecture firm 51N4E proposes a fresh approach to urban design, using infrastructure as a spark for collective thinking about what we value and invest in as a society. Developed with Newrope, it blends research and practice to explore how infrastructural boundary objects – elements that both structure space and encourage new uses – can play a key role in shaping cities. Drawing on eight 51N4E projects in Central Europe and four design themes from Newrope (intimacy, pattern, performance, togetherness), the book examines how each project responds to its local context, creating spaces that are stable yet adaptable over time.

What aesthetic practices have Palestinians been employing throughout their revolutionary anti-colonial tradition, both historically and in contemporary times? How can we read the performative gestures, image-making techniques, and singing replete inPalestine’s streets as ones embedded within a collective psychosocial and material experience and not as arbitrary isolated events? In An Echo in Search of its Shadow, Aesthetics of the Repressed Adam HajYahia and Haitham Haddad formulate an aesthetic theory of revolt by examining anti-colonial praxis. Unfolding through analysis, image-making, and poetics, HajYahia and Haddad assemble a new framework from which to understand dialectics between the visual and the audial, body and soul, form and content.

Résumé:
Exploring the infinite ways in which plastics permeate our bodies and our world, ''Everlasting Plastics'' offers intimate and political accounts of our fraught yet enmeshed kinship with these materials. Rather than making a case for or against the material, the writings and artworks collected in this volume attempt to register our ongoing toxic dependencies on plastic, its impact on other material cultures and behaviors, and the harm and possibilities it entangles for our collective futures. ''Everlasting Plastics'' records and expands upon the exhibition of the US Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Biennale, which excavated the ways synthetics both shape and erode contemporary ecologies, economies, and the built environment.

How do we build or make a voice together? Can we imagine the voices we make in the form of a skin, a multi-sensory interface that behaves both as a boundary and as a point of connection? What does such a voice capacitate in times of crises and uncertainties? In ''Building a Voice: Sound, Surface, Skin'', Zeynep Bulut explores these questions. She examines the multi-sensory and collective forms of voice making in experimental music, sound and media art in conversation with the use of voice in creative interventions for environmental crisis, experiences of voice hearing, and digital technologies of artificial and tactile speech.
