Résumé:
The notion of “Baukultur” marked a fundamental step towards a comprehensive definition of the environment. The idea that landscape, historical architectural heritage, and the existing built context could converge to portray the richness and complexity of our future habitat now points to a collective strategic approach to design. In this context, the value of architecture emerges in several economic aspects, but also and essentially as a tool to convey the culture of transition within the Baukultur. Baukultur structures a theoretical framework around these concepts leaning on the research, design, and academic experience of six architectural and urban design practices, as specific readings of the existing built environment.

Résumé:
If Euro-America, under the weight of its projected discourses, is able only to imagine the work of individual African artists as metaphor for nation, continent or race, the art of Wangechi Mutu seduces us brutally into the intricacies of the feminine as an embodiment of nation and species. It down-ends the male-centered 'big men' narratives of post-colonial Africa in favor of frightfully powerful animal-spirit women and their constituent body parts. Her work forces our collective engagement with the feminine form in its various conjugations of lover, giver and receptacle, but also as predator and merciless avenger. Michael E. Veal

Such choices are often made unconsciously, as they are based on rules, traditions, and local communities–or a combination of all three. 'Un-Conscious-City' explores and unravels Dutch architect Wiel Arets’ kaleidoscopic viewpoints on the ways the collective, unconscious decisions taken by the world’s citizens throughout time – a process that remains invisible to the naked eye – are now working to transform and shift the physical, sensory, and emotional experiences of human beings, as they navigate and live in today’s metropolises as well as the countryside.

Résumé:
The book takes us from the fells of the Lake District to the uplands of Northumberland; from the streetscapes of industrial Manchester to the heart of London. This panoramic journey reveals the significance, not only of the physical characteristics of landscapes, but also of the sense of the past, collective memories and cultural traditions that give these places their meaning. Between the late eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, Englishness extended far beyond the pastoral idyll of chocolate-box thatched cottages, waving fields of corn and quaint country churches. It was found in diverse locations - urban as well as rural, north as well as south - and it took strikingly diverse forms.

Résumé:
The exhibition ''The Architect is Present'' shows the work of five influential international studios who have turned austerity into their ethic and aesthetic motto. With offices located in five continents, these young architects work in underprivileged contexts, proving that scarcity of means can stimulate technical inventiveness and community participation, and become the basis for a responsible architecture where the vocation of service does not exclude beauty and emotion. From Norway and Germany to Burkina Faso, and from Paraguay to Australia passing through India or Thailand, these studios have built housing, rural schools or social centers with an extraordinary economy of means, admirable adaptation to collective needs and exemplary material execution.

''Possible Mediums'' presents a collection of sixteen speculative design mediums by emerging architects. Each chapter defines an active medium in contemporary architecture through descriptions, drawings, and objects. ''Possible Mediums'' arranges projects according to shared technical and aesthetic traits, creating a vibrant taxonomy of design. Descriptive texts explain the working principles behind each medium and introduce design concepts intended to inspire students and professionals alike. Through its many contributors, ''Possible Mediums'' establishes design as a collective endeavor propelled by the open exchange of ideas and techniques. ''Possible Mediums'' is not a systematic theory, a manifesto, or a banal survey; it is a projection of architecture and knowledge to come.

This nostalgic tour-de-force celebrates the alternative news-papers that forever influenced culture, politics, and society. Taking the collective name from the wartime 'underground press' of Europe's anti-Nazi resistance, the rebellious countercultural publications examined here were all members of the Underground Press Syndicate (later renamed the Alternative Press Syndicate), which was founded in 1967 so that member papers could freely share material. This utopian model perfectly suited the times. The work of soon to be famous writers and artists such as Hunter S. Thompson, T. Coraghessan Boyle, Ken Kesey, T. Crumb, and Art Spiegelman was soon widely available from coast to coast.

Résumé:
Danielle Mericle’s "The dark wood" explores broad questions of history and our collective ability to document and learn from the past. Through intertwined images of abandoned Greco-Roman casts, an ancient Sequoia forest and the artist’s own texts, Mericle invites us to consider history as a fluid process rather than a static truth. The once highly valued casts – which appear in the book as original and archival photographs – were rejected as worthless copies during the early part of the 20th century, under the belief that they lacked the artistry and aura of the originals, despite the fact that many of the "originals" were in fact Roman copies of Greek artefacts.
