LAN (Local Architecture Network), based in Paris, was founded in 2002 by Benoît Jallon (Grenoble, 1972) and Umberto Napolitano (Naples, 1975). Encompassing social and urban issues as well as debates on form and environmental and economic factors, LAN’s work seeks going beyond the vital cycle of users through the studied indetermination of the structures in their buildings, which are in this way able to adapt to possible changes of function throughout the years, and to the abstraction of their compositive language. This line of research can be found in the twenty projects included in this issue, almost all of them built in France, and a good part of them in Paris and its environs.

Secondly, it addresses the domestic sphere and its activities with the help of feminist theory, because this largely falls outside the economic equation yet is also a genuinely political place. Résumé:
This issue opens with an interview with Cassim Shepard in which he talks about creating a better general culture of understanding around architecture, urban design, and urban development issues by using all of the narrative tools we have at our disposal. For instance, collective walks through lost parts of cities, as suggested by Nick Dunn and Dan Dubowitz, or by observing people's stories and involving them in creative processes, depicted in Carolyn Drake's photo-essay. This can even change the urban dynamics, says Kathleen Gmyrek, thereby leading to participatory narratives, while OMA's Inge Goudsmit reminds us that architects are great storytellers, too.
