Résumé:
Ai Weiwei: On the Table surveys the full scope of Weiwei's career, from his early days in 1980s New York to his present-day status as the best-known and most influential Chinese artist in the world. Work by this media-savvy activist calling for greater freedom in China can now be found in leading contemporary art museums and collections worldwide; the image of his taunting, irreverent middle finger imposed atop touristy monuments and landscape photos has become ubiquitous, his sunflower seed installations iconic. This volume includes previously unseen new work, as well as a range of key pieces from the past 35 years.

Résumé:
The climate crisis has meant a return to the principles of traditional construction and the use of passive systems, with the purpose of achieving maximum comfort with a minimum environmental impact using strategies such as solar orientation, form factor, or wind patterns. AV Monographs collects sixteen houses designed according to this bioclimatic approach to respond to a huge variety of situations, from the intense heat of the African coast to the heavy snowfall of northern Europe, via the tropical rain of Southeast Asia, the marked seasonality in some areas of South America or China, and the mild temperatures in Central America and the Mediterranean.

Résumé:
After an issue dedicated to the persistent structures of colonial domination and racialization in western and northern European societies, The Funambulist 55 (Sep-Oct 2024) Asian Imperialisms intends to decenter Europe, and examine historical and present processes of imperial and/or colonial domination by seven arguably ethnocratic Asian states, namely, Japan, the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation (and the Soviet Union), India, Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey (alongside Azerbaijan). This “Asian” denomination chosen for this issue’s title follows historic examples of solidarity at this massive continental scale, the most famous one being the 1955 Afro–Asian Conference in Bandung. The cover is an artwork by Korean artist Kyungmi Shin

Résumé:
''Volume 65: Living Together'' explores ways in which we cohabitate, capturing a wide array of modes and models of living across the globe and presenting a mosaic of stories, addressing both the ongoing crises while also offering new perspectives, cases and creative engagements with housing. In-depth stories report on the scandalous ripple effect of the Syrian civil war, the transitory routes used by migrants in the Balkans, compound life in Afghanistan, and the precarious position of mental health infrastructure in China. More hopeful stories look at new building in Abidjan, cooperative practices from Zimbabwe, to Switzerland, and careful house construction in the Colombian hinterland.

Résumé:
This issue features DnA, the Beijing-based firm led by architect Xu Tiantian. Since 2004, DnA has been designing public buildings that bridge culture, industry, and infrastructure in rural China. Prior to launching her own office, Xu worked for several design firms in the United States and the Netherlands, including OMA. The magazine features 25 works by DnA, organised into four clusters located near China’s south-eastern coast: repurposing abandoned quarries in Jinyun County, revitalising Fujian ‘tulou’ (rural dwellings unique to the Hakka Chinese subgroup), public facilities in Songyang County, and the creation of a cultural museum to showcase local traditions on Meizhou Island.
