Trespassing is an action that runs counter to the design of a city. Trespassing means physically to enter without permission, but also metaphorically, to subvert and ignore the rules and norms of the city. To trespass is to critique the concept of ownership, the idea that we must pay, obey, or ask permission to occupy urban space.

This publication looks closely on transforming existing real estate by promoting creative clusters, starting with specific architectures that are examined using an open-minded approach. What are the economic, political and design mechanisms used to build and legitimise them? What city concept is designed and built in these spaces? Can we identify recurrent features, general issues, and compositional orders and logic? The book discusses creative clusters as fertile ground for research and action involving the architectural and urban project and outlines several distinctive traits of professional and design practices in China in the last decade. In particular, the book focus on three recurrent methods used by architectural projects to reconfigure space—Collecting icons, Shifting scale, Bounding borders.

''Odile Decq: The Wunderkammer of Odile Decq'' invites you to take a voyage and explore Odile Decq's unique and complete universe of architecture, urban planning, design and art, which celebrates the freedom of imagination and shines a light on her distinctive approach to what is conventionally defined as architecture. Perhaps nothing could set the tone for this book better than Odile Decq's own poetic words, a credo that has become evident after 40 years of architectural and design practice: "The horizon line is a constant temptation, and gives the desire of beyond, the absence of limits blurs the perception, creates ambiguity, fusion, and illusion. The consciousness of elsewhere, the perception of the space beyond."

Résumé:
In the sixties and seventies, Ugo La Pietra's design research focused, following critical trends which analysed the social and peripheral aspect of the urban space, on spontaneous material cultures. In particular, within Other cultures, La Pietra's investigation focuses on a specific and circumscribed environment, where architectural peculiarities are created spontaneously: Poetto beach in Cagliari. The review, which consists of a photographic sampling of the summer beach constructions, the "ville", dating back to 1978 and reveals a unique environment that has all but vanished, a spontaneous architecture that observes a cohesive language. The wooden villas along the beach in Cagliari are unique structures which form, as shown inside the book, a real lost architectural alphabet.

Résumé:
An investigation through texts, interviews, and documentation of the complex relationship between the urban, the rural, and contemporary cultural production. What, and where, is “the Rural”? From the rocks that break a farmer's plough on a field in Japan to digital infrastructures that organize geographically dispersed interests and ambitions, vast parts of our lives are still connected and dependent on resources, production, and infrastructures located within rural geographies, and the rural remains a shared cultural space. This anthology is formed as a document, tool, and navigation device for future artistic practice in which “the rural” is filtered through a lens sharpened by an audience-based model of art that practices from within the culture it addresses.

Résumé:
Over the years Herman Hertzberger has made a great many theatre designs for sites both in the Netherlands and abroad. They are presented here together for the first time in book-form. In a long interview with Arthur Wortmann the architect explains what designing theatres means to him. Armed with many examples from his own work and the work of others, he describes how a theatre ought to slip into its urban surroundings, the considerations that obtain when designing the auditoria and the secret of a good foyer. Hertzberger explains that theatres in fact should blend into the city. He calls for polyvalency instead of flexibility and stresses the need to articulate space so that there is always plenty to see.

Langarita Navarro document the two lives, ephemeral and temporary, of their installation ‘Red Bull Music Academy – Nave de Música' in the Matadero warehouse. Atelierdacosta provide a detailed overview of the production of "Casa Crespo", questioning both their work and the discipline of architecture itself. Kwong Von Glinow reproduce the microcosm of "Ardmore House" as a transformation of the typical wooden frame house into a complex alternative in terms of space and programme. Co.Creation.Architects present their community work that precedes their built projects, called the co-creation process, focusing on the case of "Urban River Spaces".

Résumé:
With "Me++" the author of "City of bits" and "e-topia" completes an informal trilogy examining the ramifications of information technology in everyday life. In "Me++" Mitchell examines the effects of wireless linkage, global interconnection, miniaturization, and portability on our bodies, our clothing, our architecture, our cities, and our uses of space and time. Computer viruses, cascading power outages, terrorist infiltration of transportation networks, and cellphone conversations in the streets are symptoms of a dramatic new urban condition--that of ubiquitous, inescapable network interconnectivity. He argues that a world governed less and less by boundaries and more and more by connections requires us to reimagine and reconstruct our environment and to reconsider the ethical foundations of design, engineering, and planning practice.

Résumé:
How can the public library fulfil its classic social mission in our individualized and sometimes fragmented society? And how does such a library fit into the urban public space, in which commerce and consumption seem to reign supreme? This requires innovative architecture, the strength of imagination and the willingness to think countercyclically. In this book, librarians Rob Bruijnzeels and Joyce Sternheim examine the most important transitions in public library work. They speak with experts and Dutch and Flemish top architects who have designed public libraries in the Netherlands and abroad. These conversations and the authors’ own insights and experiences have resulted in a new perspective on contemporary library work that has been translated into starting points for the future architecture of public libraries.

Résumé:
The devastation of the Second World War gave rise to imaginations both utopian and apocalyptic. In Japan, a fascinating confluence of architects and science fiction writers took advantage of this space to begin remaking urban design. In 'The Metabolist Imagination', William O. Gardner explores the unique Metabolism movement, which allied with science fiction authors to foresee the global cities that would emerge in the postwar era. This first comparative study of postwar Japanese architecture and science fiction builds on the resurgence of interest in Metabolist architecture while establishing new directions for exploration. Gardner focuses on how these innovators created unique versions of shared concepts—including futurity, megastructures, capsules, and cybercities—making lasting contributions that resonate with contemporary conversations around cyberpunk, climate change, anime, and more.
