Résumé:
"The Eyes of the Skin" has become a classic of architectural theory and consists of two extended essays. The first surveys the historical development of the ocular-centric paradigm in western culture since the Greeks and its impact on the experience of the world and the nature of architecture. The second examines the role of the other senses in authentic architectural experiences, and points the way towards a multi-sensory architecture which facilitates a sense of belonging and integration. Since the book's first publication, interest in the role of the body and the senses has been emerging in both architectural philosophy and teaching. This new, revised and extended edition of this seminal work will not only inspire architects and students to design more holistic architecture, but will enrich the general reader's perception of the world around them. Preface by Steven Holl.

Résumé:
The logistics of agricultural society resulted in global warming and hardwired dangerous ideas about life-forms into the human mind. Dark ecology puts us in an uncanny position of radical self-knowledge, illuminating our place in the biosphere and our belonging to a species in a sense that is far less obvious than we like to think. Morton explores the logical foundations of the ecological crisis, which is suffused with the melancholy and negativity of coexistence yet evolving, as we explore its loop form, into something playful, anarchic, and comedic. His work is a skilled fusion of humanities and scientific scholarship, incorporating the theories and findings of philosophy, anthropology, literature, ecology, biology, and physics. Morton hopes to reestablish our ties to nonhuman beings and to help us rediscover the playfulness and joy that can brighten the dark, strange loop we traverse.

Résumé:
This groundbreaking project summarizes how contemporary Indigenous photographers have taken over the conversation about how their cultures and lives are depicted through their dynamic embrace of three interwoven themes: Survivance, Nation and Indigenous Visuality. These photographers enact a key shift away from privileging settler-colonialism, foregrounding instead an Indigenous sense of community and visuality. ''Speaking with Light'' reveals and examines these Indigenous artists’ explorations of themes such as identity, the contribution of customary practice to contemporary life, belonging and the assistance that Indigenous worldviews can provide to building healthier relationships with each other and the earth. The book comprises four sections bridged by transitions and ending with a globalization of the discussion. Texts by key Indigenous scholars are followed by a series of plates illustrating many of the exhibition works. ''Speaking with Light'' is a summary statement about the preoccupations and dynamism of Indigenous photography today.

Résumé:
Aglaia Konrad’s work often takes the form of a book, each conceived as an edited archive of the ways in which she uses photography to investigate urban landscapes. Two of her book projects were part of "The lives of documents—Photography as project", the project curated by Stefano Graziani and Bas Princen, and it was while putting this exhibition together that Konrad shared her enthusiasm after researching the work of five women that conceived several residential neighbourhoods in Warsaw after the Second World War and redefined the city as a green haven. If the two book projects she presented in our exhibition—Atlas (2000) and Copy Cities (2003–2004)—brought together multiple fragments of her extensive and systematic documentary work on cities, her survey of the work of Alina Scholtz, Barbara Brukalska, Halina Skibniewska, Helena Syrkus, and Zofia Hansen leads now to a travel diary that reflects on the role of architecture and landscape architecture in defining places of bonding and belonging.

"The local price of a cheeseburger, medium Coke and French fries is the quickest way to estimate the cost of living in each country," writes artist Francis Alys in Report (Not Announcement). "There's always everything has been done and nothing has been tried at the same time," writes Karl Holmqvist. Both observations are part of this intriguing book by artists, curators, and critics reflecting on traveling in many ways: their own ontological states of leaving and arriving from the zone of transition, non-belonging, and suspension, exploring what international cultural practitioners lose and gain in their constant travels. A project by BAK (basis voor actuele kunst) in collaboration with e-flux (electronic flux corporation). With contributions by Francis Alys, Tobias Berger, Mariana Castillo Deball & Daniela Franco, Jeremiah Day, Liam Gillick, Marina Grzinic, Mika Hannula, Hou Hanru, Thomas Hirschhorn, Jens Hoffmann, Karl Holmqvist, Hans Ulrich Obrist & Philippe Parreno, Raqs Media Collective, Martha Rosler, Kuang-Yu Tsui, Haegue Yang, and many others. **EPUISÉ / OUT OF PRINT**

Résumé:
For almost three thousand years, the Mycenaeans, ancestors of the classical Greeks, lay lost and forgotten beneath the soil of Greece. In 1876, however, a German businessman, Heinrich Schliemann, in his search for the great Mycenaean king Agamemnon and other heroes of the Trojan War, made an astounding discovery in Mycenae: inside the monumental Lion Gate he discovered shaft graves belonging to a warrior elite, many of whom were buried wearing striking gold funerary masks and armor. In this authoritative new survey, Schofield examines these initial discoveries and other material evidence from Mycenaean culture, including painted pottery, documents in Linear B script, and the remains of fortress-palaces, all of which have yielded important information about the social hierarchies, religion, and military and trading activities of this wealthy and sophisticated culture. The author also considers the factual basis for the Mycenaeans' legendary links with the Trojan War and the various explanations for the eventual decline of their civilization.

Résumé:
This publication presents a compilation of photographs from African diasporic culture. With over one hundred works by Black artists from Canada, the Caribbean, Great Britain, the United States, South America, as well as throughout the African continent, this volume provides a timely exploration of Black identity on both sides of the Atlantic. Drawn from Dr. Kenneth Montague’s Wedge Collection in Toronto—a Black-owned collection dedicated to artists of African descent—this book looks at the multifaceted ideas of Black life through the lenses of community, identity, and power. Artists such as Stan Douglas, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Barkley L. Hendricks, Texas Isaiah, Liz Johnson Artur, Seydou Keïta, Deana Lawson, Jamel Shabazz, and Carrie Mae Weems, touch on themes of agency, beauty, joy, belonging, subjectivity, and self-representation. Writings by Isolde Brielmaier, Ugochukwu-Smooth C. Nzewi, Mark Sealy, Teka Selman, and Deborah Willis among others provide insight and commentary on this monumental collection.
