The iconic architecture of the brutalist modernist megastructure of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada built by architect Arthur Erickson in the 1960s is the site of the artistic research project into the history of this "radical campus" and its built environment by Vancouver and Vienna based artists Sabine Bitter and Helmut Weber. The collaborative research group, "Guests and Hosts", formed by Bitter & Weber and Métis scholar June Scudeler including Métis scholar and student Treena Chambers, Kanien’kehá:ka Mohawk student Toni-Leah Yake, as well as Rachel Warwick and Hannah Campbell, has challenged the narrative of the radical campus, so called because it was informed by experimental concepts of learning and teaching. Using the spaces of a settler colonial institution, the project shifts perspectives by unsettling and challenging western- based concepts of pedagogy and knowledge. Combining archival photographic material, architectural photographs by the artists, and interventions into the institutional spaces by Guests and Hosts, the project performs the claim for places rather than spaces for Indigenous ways of knowing and learning.

In "The politics of collecting," Eunsong Kim traces how racial capitalism and colonialism situated the rise of US museum collections and conceptual art forms. Investigating historical legal and property claims, she argues that regimes of expropriation--rather than merit or good taste--are responsible for popular ideas of formal innovation and artistic genius. In doing so, she details how Marcel Duchamp's canonization has more to do with his patron's donations to museums than it does the quality of Duchamp's work, and she uncovers the racialized and financialized logic behind the Archive of New Poetry's collecting practices. Ranging from the conception of philanthropy devised by the robber barons of the late nineteenth century to ongoing digitization projects, Kim provides a new history of contemporary art that accounts for the complicated entanglement of race, capital, and labor behind storied art institutions and artists. Drawing on history, theory, and economics, Kim challenges received notions of artistic success and talent and calls for a new vision of art beyond the cultural institution.

Au printemps de 2009, sous la houlette d'Edgar Fruitier, son président d'honneur, La Phonothèque québécoise/Musée du son célèbre ses vingt ans d'existence. Comment est née cette institution, pourquoi a-t-elle été officiellement mise sur pied, le 6 avril 1989? A partir de son port d'attache dans le Quartier Latin de Montréal, cet organisme, voué à sauvegarder, documenter et diffuser le patrimoine sonore du Québec, a accompli quelques voyages à New York, Ottawa, Washington et Paris. Comme le Petit Poucet, La Phonothèque a semé plusieurs cailloux tout le long de ses sentiers et de ses cheminements: collections, études et recherches, expositions, soirées d'animation, conférences de presse. L'histoire de La Phonothèque québécoise ressemble à un conte qui se lit et s'écoute. Au printemps de 2009, sous la houlette d'Edgar Fruitier, son président d'honneur, La Phonothèque québécoise/Musée du son célèbre ses vingt ans d'existence. Comment est née cette institution, pourquoi a-t-elle été officiellement mise sur pied, le 6 avril 1989? A partir de son port d'attache dans le Quartier Latin de Montréal, cet organisme, voué à sauvegarder, documenter et diffuser le patrimoine sonore du Québec, a accompli quelques voyages à New York, Ottawa, Washington et Paris. Comme le Petit Poucet, La Phonothèque a semé plusieurs cailloux tout le long de ses sentiers et de ses cheminements: collections, études et recherches, expositions, soirées d'animation, conférences de presse.
