Résumé:
"The House of one" is a bold proposal by three local communities to build a house of prayer and learning for Jews, Christians, and Muslims in central Berlin. The design, which was the result of an international competition won by architects Kuehn Malvezzi in 2012, is to be built on the existing foundations of St. Petri Church, the first documented site in Berlin's history. The concept of the House of One is based on dialogue and an understanding of other faiths. As well as being a place of worship, it will be an educational center open to everyone. The sequence of spaces follows the principle of multiplicity within unity and heterogeneity within a single building. Although their rituals are different, coming together around a central hall in one building aspires to the universal.

Résumé:
Urban Visions presumes that understanding our urban experience is a prerequisite for envisioning what it could be; radically, they might be the same. This book accepts that visions—more articulate currently in disciplines and media other than architecture and planning—need not always be heroic or grand. But our experience of the city does occur in something that is designed—be it by architects, planners, or more often and anonymously by larger societal or cultural forces. It is an intricate construction in which physical, cultural, commercial, historical, ideological, and personal presences can coincide. In assembling work by distinguished authors from different disciplines and countries, Urban Visions puts forth a patient examination of what urban experience is and of the city’s necessity, with explicit and implicit propositions about what it could be.

Résumé:
"Reflections on Seaside" is the most comprehensive book on the history and development of the nation's first and most influential New Urbanist town. The book chronicles the forty-year history of the evolution and development of the town of Seaside, Florida, which has had a significant global influence on town planning around the world. The book features, among other elements, new projects built in and around the town since the last publication in 2013, and outlines a blueprint for moving forward over the next twenty-five to fifty years. Many new essays by a wide array of prominent architects and designers, including Robert A. M. Stern, Andrés Duany, Deborah Berke, Steven Holl, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Ray Gindroz, and Scott Merrill, examine urbanism today as well as sustainability and the environment.

Résumé:
Designers, graphic artists, architects, and urban planners are now confronted with the tasks of signage, route management, and information and orientation systems. With this book they can profit from a broad view of phenomena related to disorientation-disorientation in scientific disciplines, in our environments, and in expressive presentations. On the one hand, this should make it possible for designers to benefit from attitudes to the topic derived from experience and to move from confusion to visual reflection. On the other, it will enable scholarly disciplines to explore the formation of categories that can move things forward. This visual study is accompanied by heterogeneous brief texts. Images and texts are thus placed in a relationship of mutual reflections rather than confronted with one another in a commentary or illustration.

Résumé:
"A Real Living Contact with theThings Themselves" selects nine essays written throughout Scalbert’s career from the early 1990s to the present. Four of the essays are detailed studies of major buildings, including both critiques written at the time the buildings were made and comments on extant buildings that contributed to their rediscovery. Other pieces represent broader studies of historical movements and ideas, interpreting their significance within the context of contemporary architecture. All of the essays are based on direct experience, whether through quiet contemplation or candid interviews with architects, builders, or inhabitants. An architect by training, Scalbert writes with the purpose of illuminating the design efforts made and enriching the form of the architectures he describes, and his essays thus contribute to many key moments in the architectural history of the past three decades.

Résumé:
Albert Frey worked in Le Corbusier's atelier in Paris, but he is most closely associated with the 1940s and 1950s desert architecture of Southern California, and with the work of architects such as Richard Neutra and John Lautner. This exquisitely designed monograph on Albert Frey focuses on two houses he built for himself in Palm Springs, California, one in 1941 (with an addition in 1953) and the other in 1964. Although both houses have a modern aesthetic, including glass walls and concrete construction, they are fully incorporated into their surroundings, in keeping with Frey's principles of paralleling nature in his work. This title, which was developed in collaboration with Frey himself, includes colour and duotone photographs commissioned especially for this book. The book is exquisitely made and comes in a plastic slipcase.

Résumé:
Founded by Eyal Weizman at Goldsmiths College in London in 2010, the research agency Forensic Architecture has investigated dozens of incidents of state violence—military intervention, environmental destruction, border violence and police murder. Working at the intersection of architecture, law, journalism, human rights and ecology, Forensic Architecture researches conflicts and crimes around the world, using architectural tools and methods to conduct spatial and architectural analyses of particular incidents. They do not design new buildings, but like other architects, they examine and model spaces, with the aim of shedding light on events. This catalog focuses on the witnesses at the core of Forensic Architecture’s work. Featuring texts by Weizman, Christina Varvia and a roundtable discussion between members of the current team, this richly illustrated book opens a window into Forensic Architecture’s working methods and projects.

Résumé:
"There is a sense, in which the demolition that is taking place through the war has not yet gone far enough." This statement was made in the thick of the Second World War (1942) by the influential American social and cultural critic Lewis Mumford. In most of the cities hit hardest by the air-raids,something akin to planning euphoria did in fact break out at that time. In all the countries of Europe, the devastation of the cities was acclaimed as a liberating factor. In this volume, historians and architects from various cultures analyse the ideas and convictions on which post-war urban planning was modelled. To illustrate the points, a number of towns and cities in different countries are discussed with reference to the planning schemes proposed for them and other documents.
