Résumé:
Munich Airport has received international praise for its design, humane architecture and capacity for expansion. The central hall of Terminal 2 is a highlight in airport construction: spacious, clear, well-lit and equipped with all the necessary facilities for efficient passenger clearance. Numerous shops and places to dine provide diversion and cater to passenger needs. The clearly structured and transparent layout represents a synthesis of function and aesthetics. Expansive and distinctive, the new central hall links perfectly with the neighbouring Munich Airport Centre while setting an individual accent in terms of proportion, detail and design.

Résumé:
A radical pioneer of Bauhaus textile design, Otti Berger created fabrics that fundamentally changed the understanding of what textiles could be and do. A core member of the textile faculty at the Bauhaus alongside Anni Albers and Gunta Stölzl, Berger also was an entrepreneur in the frenzied culture of early 1930s Berlin. Working closely with architects of the New Objectivity movement such as Lilly Reich, Ludwig Hilberseimer and Hans Scharoun, she designed upholstery, wall fabrics, curtains and floor coverings that explored novel production methods, and thereby redefined the relationship between aesthetics and function.

Résumé:
"Architectures : modernism and after" surveys the history of the building from the advent of industrialization to the cultural imperatives of the present moment. Brings together international art and architectural historians to consider a range of topics that have influenced the shape, profile, and aesthetics of the built environment. Presents crucial "moments" in the history of the field when the architecture of the past is made to respond to new and changing cultural circumstances. Provides a view of architectural history as a part of a continuing dialogue between aesthetic criteria and social and cultural imperatives.

Résumé:
Form and Formlessness is an experimental research project that investigates how aesthetic abstractions are developed through three approaches: An educational approach concerned with developing an aesthetic discipline, supporting a formgiving process aimed to create tangible artifacts. An art-based approach supporting an open exploration of distortion and formlessness. A cross-disciplinary exploratory approach concerned with aesthetic experiences shared in laborations demonstrating complexity and transformation. The thesis offers methods and models that both support and challenge the normative concepts of beauty, with high relevance for teaching 3-D formgiving aesthetics and research by design methodologies.

Résumé:
''Earth'' will focus on our relationship with the natural world, during a moment of continued debate about global warming and extreme weather, and as the vulnerability of our natural environment is underscored each day. As we enter the anthropocene, the term used by scientists to describe an age when human activity has the greatest impact on the earth, what is the role of the artist and culture in addressing this crisis? How do photographers honor and draw inspiration from the natural world? How do aesthetics shape our understanding of ecological concerns?

Résumé:
As the world becomes increasingly complex and complicated, simplicity is increasingly in demand. We all seek simplicity in small or large measure. We strive to create simplicity at work and at home. ''Simplicity: A Matter of Design'' offers a set of terms that allows us to discuss simplicity in design with precision. It looks into the basics of simplicity and researches more in depth three aspects of design: functionality (simplicity for comfort), aesthetics (simplicity for pleasure), and ethics (simplicity for conscience). There is an extra chapter on simplicity in communication.

Résumé:
In Punctuation: Art, Politics, and Play, Jennifer DeVere Brody places punctuation at center stage. She illuminates the performative aspects of dots, ellipses, hyphens, quotation marks, semicolons, colons, and exclamation points by considering them in relation to aesthetics and experimental art. Through her readings of texts and symbols ranging from style guides to digital art, from emoticons to dance pieces, Brody suggests that instead of always clarifying meaning, punctuation can sometimes open up space for interpretation, enabling writers and visual artists to interrogate and reformulate notions of life, death, art, and identity politics.

Résumé:
This volume is dedicated to Piero Portaluppi (1888-1967), a significant and recently rediscovered figure of Italian twentieth-century architecture. Long neglected by critics, his work has been revisited and rightly reappraised thanks to the opening of Villa Necchi in Milan to the public. The book traces Portaluppi’s work through three design typologies: living spaces, the aesthetics of industrial structures and public places. Notable examples of the industrial spaces include the power plants that Portalupi lovingly constructed from 1910 to 1930, real architectural gems with an eclectic taste.
