Résumé:
Spomeniks literally meaning 'Monuments' in Serbo-Croatian, look like spaceships conspicuously parked up in the middle of nowhere, alien to their surroundings, their bizarre beauty deriving from both their location and imaginative symbolism. Follow in the footsteps of French photographer Jonathan 'Jonk' Jimenez as he tries to track down these super-sized public structures. Once numbering in their thousands and attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, in particular “young pioneers” for their communist and patriotic education. Pushing architecture to its limits, Spomeniks are what happens when brutalism, symbolism, space age aesthetics and abstraction meet.

Résumé:
In retracing the Viaggio photographic archive in Italy, a collection of 220 photographs from a 1984 project organised by pioneering contemporary photographer Luigi Ghirri, Nicola Nunziata presents a multi-layered book that considers the notion of landscape. Rereading the original images in terms of individual and shared experience, memory, and aesthetics, he investigates their substance formats, materials, surface textures, colours, marks and traces, signatures of the authors in order to divulge the singular details that express the history they hold, and thereby reflect upon the sense of transformation on a global scale in the period when they came into being.

Résumé:
Using philosophical works from ancient Greece to contemporary times, Philosophy and the city demonstrates both why philosophy matters to the city and how cities matter to philosophy. The collection addresses questions that remain central to urban planning and everyday urban life, such as, What is a city? What does it mean to be a good citizen? By bringing various perspectives together, Sharon M. Meagher provides readers the opportunity to better understand key philosophical debates concerning not only social and political philosophy but also place and identity formation, aesthetics, philosophy of race and diversity, and environmental philosophy.

Résumé:
Helming Los Angeles’s most misunderstood info-architecture practice is Henries Ickles, “the man without self-concept.” Time and again Ickles offers practical solutions to the most impenetrable theoretical entanglements of art, architecture, and science in the 2090s. In the fifth book in the Critical Spatial Practice series, Mark von Schlegell’s fusion of theory and fiction puts the SF back in notions of 'speculative aesthetics'. A collection of interconnected comical sci-fi stories written for various exhibitions, Ickles, Etc. explores the future of architectural practice in light of developments in climatology, quasicrystalography, hyper-contemporary art, time travel, and the EGONET.

Résumé:
Counter Space examines the twentieth-century transformation of the kitchen through the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, featuring a wide variety of design objects, architectural plans, posters, archival photographs and artworks--ranging from the iconic Frankfurt Kitchen, mass-produced for German public housing estates in the aftermath of World War I, to an electric tea kettle, heat-resistant glass wares, and colorful plastics, such as Tupperware and Japanese artificial food. With an introductory essay by Juliet Kinchin, Curator in MoMA's Department of Architecture and Design, this volume is a lively exploration of the kitchen as a barometer of changing technology, aesthetics, and ideologies.
