Résumé:
The photographs and essays in this combination artist book and monograph reveal the invisible histories of human enterprise, idealism and trauma embedded in the work by Berlin artist Stephanie Kloss. Eight bodies of work in black and white and color made in locations as diverse as Israel, Japan, the United States, Germany and Greece, from 2006 to 2014, explore the mythos and utopianism of architecture. An idyllic Canary Island bears scant traces of Otto Muehl s Actionist commune and sexual crimes; the mute currents of the Mississippi Delta belie its devastation first by Hurricane Katrina and subsequently by the BP oil spill. The commonality and one could say, colonization of modernist architectural form rather than the peculiarities of place, nation or time seems to attract her lens. In Weltausstellung, Kloss speaks a collective photographic language that warns against the ease and peril of forgetfulness.

Résumé:
Written between 1974 and 2012, ''Revolution at point zero'' collects forty years of research and theorizing on the nature of housework, social reproduction, and women’s struggles on this terrainto escape it, to better its conditions, to reconstruct it in ways that provide an alternative to capitalist relations. Indeed, as Federici reveals, behind the capitalist organization of work and the contradictions inherent in ''alienated labor'' is an explosive ground zero for revolutionary practice upon which are decided the daily realities of our collective reproduction. Beginning with Federici’s organizational work in the Wages for Housework movement, the essays collected here unravel the power and politics of wide but related issues including the international restructuring of reproductive work and its effects on the sexual division of labor, the globalization of care work and sex work, the crisis of elder care, the development of affective labor, and the politics of the commons.

Résumé:
This book is a collection of essays at the intersection of architecture and climate change. Neither a collective lament nor an inventory of architectural responses, the essays consider cultural values ascribed to climate and ask how climate re? ects our conception of what architecture is and does. Which materials and conceptual infrastructures render climate legible, knowable, and actionable, and what are their spatial implications? How do these interrelated questions offer new vantage points on the architectural rami? cations of climate change at the interface of resiliency, sustain-ability, and ecotechnology? 'Climates' also contains a dossier of precedents for thinking about architecture and climate change drawn from a number of leading practitioners. New approaches to understanding climate in architecture make this book invaluable. This publication is a project by The Avery Review, a journal produced by the Of?ce of Publications at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Résumé:
This Is Tomorrow was a seminal exhibition of art, architecture, music and graphic design that took place at London's Whitechapel Gallery in August 1956. At its core was a room given over to the Independent Group, the proto-Pop collective comprised of (at various stages) the theorists Reyner Banham and Lawrence Alloway, photographer Nigel Henderson and the artists Eduardo Paolozzi, Richard Hamilton, William Turnbull and John McHale. The Independent Group's room premiered works of Op art alongside film posters, collages, murals, films and a jukebox, and was Britain's introduction to the phenomenon later named Pop. The spiralbound catalogue for This Is Tomorrow was designed by Edward Wright and published by Lund Humphries; out of print since 1957, it has since become a much sought-after rarity and a classic of graphic design and postwar visual culture. This facsimile edition is published for the Whitechapel's 2010-11 reconstruction of the 1956 show.

Résumé:
''For Want of a Nail'' takes as its starting point a series of curious memoranda sent from J. Robert Oppenheimer's office in October 1943 and archived in the Los Alamos Historical Museum, in which the eminent scientist repeatedly requests a nail in the wall upon which he could hang his hat. The persistence and specificity of the request for this nail inspired the international art collective Futurefarmers to create, by hand (and after more than a half-century delay), three nails for the theoretical physicist: one forged from a meteorite, one cast using 1943 steel pennies, and a third made by re-fusing Trinitite, a material formed by residue from the Trinity nuclear bomb test. Throughout this multidisciplinary project, Futurefarmers constructs a narrative that runs parallel, and in some cases counter to, the conventional accounts of the Manhattan Project and Oppenheimer, its chief architect.

Résumé:
This publication is the result of a year-long dialogue between British architect David Chipperfield (born 1953) and Swiss architect Simon Kretz (born 1982). The two began working together through the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, in which Chipperfield mentored the younger architect for a year. This publication focuses on a single aspect of their conversations—the problems and possibilities of planning. "On Planning" aims to intervene in the future of urban development, offering a manifesto for a relational, collective and diverse future for our cities. Using the Bishopsgate goods yard site in East London as a case study, Chipperfield and Kretz explore the conditions under which an ideal urban development project could flourish. The conclusions reached through this exercise demonstrate how future large-scale developments elsewhere could have more positive urban impact, both at the scale of the neighborhood and the wider metropolis.

Résumé:
In architecture, nothing is ever truly new; everything has been tried before. And nowhere is this more evident than in the architecture of housing. Each proffered solution to a specific architectural problem is actually an amalgam of predecessors’ ideas and new approaches, which itself contributes in turn to a great global 'pool' for succeeding concepts. For twenty years, this philosophy has driven the activities of Zurich-based cooperative Pool Architekten, with a special focus on the research and design of residential buildings. ''Poolology of housing'' is an up-close look at the collective’s body of work and a potential font of inspiration for others interest in letting this philosophy guide the creation of innovative architecture. At the core of the book are two hundred floor plans, designed by members of the collective and students during Pool Architekten’s tenure from 2013 to 2016 at Technische Universität Berlin.

In winter 2006, under the stewardship of philosopher Wolfgang Scheppe, a collective of students from the IUAV University in Venice fanned out to subject their city to a forensic structural mapping. Out of this fieldwork, conducted in the Situationist psychogeography tradition, there developed a three-year urban project that produced an enormous archive comprising tens of thousands of photographs, case studies, movement profiles and statistic data. From this archive, Venice, sited as it is at the junction of three migration corridors, emerges as a classic instance of the increasingly globalized city in which a decimated inner-city population meets armies of tourists and a parallel economy supported by illegal immigrants. In a map that cleverly branches out into visual essays, written essays, data maps and interviews, the globalized territory of Venice is microscopically dissected and defined as an urban metaphor, the city becoming an “atlas of a global situation.”

Résumé:
The book, ''Architecture as fabulated reality,'' marks the culmination of AAPK’s four experimental architectural projects, which employed virtual reality technology (VR) as the primary medium. The four projects explore a new emerging sense of spatiality, fabulating and questioning the notion of reality based upon shared backgrounds and attitudes to contemporary architectural discourse. To enhance ideas advanced by AAPK, the book invites four guest contributors from the architectural academic field in forms of critical essays or an interview. They reveal their collective interest in the power of the image and in forms of reality, in medium specificity and digital technology, and in presentation and representation along disciplinary lines. The subject of the book becomes clearer by curating and connecting each text, and meanwhile, makes it possible to reflect upon the situation that architecture is facing in the reality crisis caused by today’s digital technology or image culture.
