Structuring the book as a parable in which the example of Botswana has lessons for the rest of the globe, Livingston shows how fundamental needs for water, food, and transportation become harnessed to what she calls self-devouring growth: an unchecked and unsustainable global pursuit of economic growth that threatens catastrophic environmental destruction. As Livingston notes, improved technology alone cannot stave off such destruction; what is required is a greater accounting of the web of relationships between humans, nonhuman beings, plants, and minerals that growth entails. Livingston contends that by failing to understand these relationships and the consequences of self-devouring growth, we may be unknowingly consuming our future.

These artists’ books were conceived, built and re-invented as works of art themselves, and some of them had a very important role in defining the aims and beliefs of the whole artistic movement. A detailed introduction analyses “diagonally” people, times, places and texts involved in the Arte Povera movement and their mutual relationships; then, each artist is individually presented through his books and one-person exhibitions, along with several photos of the mentioned documents. The book is completed by an accurate chronology of the collective exhibitions (1966-2005) and a detailed bibliography of the books, essays and articles about the "poveristi” (1966-2006).

Purdy's distinctly new interpretation of German theory reveals how metaphors constitute interior life as an architectural space to be designed, constructed, renovated, or demolished. He elucidates the close affinity between Hegel's Romantic aesthetic of space and Daniel Libeskind's deconstruction of monumental architecture in Berlin's Jewish Museum. Home to the facts are the eras: that's why over the following issues Archivio will identify four decade-long containers. This issue continues Archivio's journey back through the twentieth century, stopping this time on the fluorescently outgoing, yet such intimate years of the 1980s—so close and yetso far.
