Résumé:
Monogamy has played a central role in modernity, shaping our concepts of love, relationships, and family. In ''Monogamous Mind, Polyamorous Terror'', Spanish writer Brigitte Vasallo explores how mechanisms of love are deeply rooted in societal and individual norms, rather than being freely chosen. Originally published in Spanish and now a global bestseller, this groundbreaking text reveals how the notions of state, nation, and identity – founded on codes of exclusivity, possession, and hierarchy – are intertwined with monogamy. Drawing on extensive historical research through the lens of social and affective organisation, Vasallo challenges one of the most entrenched pillars of Western society. She unveils the potential for a radical transformation in our relationships – whether erotic, familial, or communal – pointing towards a new, inclusive approach for a different world.

"Portrait of a house: Conversations with BV Doshi" draws the celebrated architect into conversation with the photo artist Dayanita Singh in an exploration of the kindred alchemy of their creative practices. Beginning when she first photographed him in his famed Kamala House (Dayanita’s ‘favourite temple of light’), named after BV’s wife, the book spans years of their conversations, presented alongside black-and-white portraits of the space filled with family. In a collaborative exchange, BV responds directly to these photographs, revealing hidden motivations behind his architectural innovations. At its core, "Portrait of a house" is an exploration of light, movement, and a home’s capacity to guide its inhabitants, at turns lulling them to sleep or sparking them into animated conversation.

Résumé:
"Eating the urban wild" leads readers on an unconventional food tour through the wild corners and everyday streets of Montreal. Natalie Doonan reimagines what it means to eat locally, inviting us to experience food not as the consumption of a single dish but as part of a vibrant, entangled ecosystem. From waterfowl hunting on the Lachine Rapids and sturgeon fishing in Lake Saint-Louis to Verdun’s cooperative gardens and aquaponics initiative, beekeeping, community cooking classes, independent grocers, and even fast-food restaurants, this work brims with sensory detail. We hear the voices of hunters, fishers, foragers, biologists, and the author’s own family and friends – all of whom reveal unexpected ways of relating to food. From these neighbourhood practices emerges a broader political and ecological resonance.

Résumé:
In 1998 Périphériques edited the book ”36 propositions for a home”. The projects resulted from an international competition to design lowpriced single-family houses. Some of the competition entries have since been built and in this new book, the realization of these and similar houses which were designed in the same spirit, has been documented. These buildings are examples of contemporary residential forms, where creative use is made of prefabricated materials, buildings and surroundings are integrated in a highly individual way, and the feeling of spaciousness is emphasized in the designs. Examples from Abalos y Herreros, Atelier Bow-wow, Gallart, Lacaton-Vassal, Lacoste-Stevenson, Marin-Trottin, MVRDV, 2M2N, Paillard- Jumeau, Ricciotti, Tezuka-Tezuka are included and text contributions analyse the basic principles of low-cost building.

Résumé:
Olin investigates the publication of photographs in mass media and literature, the hanging of exhibitions, the posting of photocopied photographs of lost loved ones in public spaces, and the intense photographic activity of tourists at their destinations. She moves from intimate relationships between viewers and photographs to interactions around larger communities, analyzing how photography affects the way people handle cataclysmic events like 9/11. Along the way, she shows us James VanDerZee’s Harlem funeral portraits, dusts off Roland Barthes’s family album, takes us into Walker Evans and James Agee’s photo-text Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, and logs onto online photo albums. With over one hundred illustrations, Touching Photographs is an insightful contribution to the theory of photography, visual studies, and art history.
