Résumé:
Following the blockbuster success of ''Wicked Arts Assignments'', ''Wicked Arts Education'' helps teachers and creatives design exciting arts educational programs from scratch. These arts programs foster a meaningful connection between the culture of the student, the arts and society. The included arts educational design strategies have been tested in a variety of settings around the world and were found to be helpful in challenging arts educators to explore curriculum ideas collectively, creatively and productively. In a time of individualization and polarization, this volume underlines the power of collective learning about, in and through the arts. Though ''Wicked Arts Education'' can be used to create personalized learning trajectories, it also advocates building learning communities in which students and teachers share interests, expertise and opinions. ''Wicked Arts Education'' can be used in a variety of educational contexts: from primary to higher education, and for arts curricula inside and beyond schools. The book is not only for educational settings, however, but intended for a wide-reaching audience that includes anyone wanting to work collectively with others on a creative project.

Since the late 1980s, Catherine Opie's interest in the motif of the visual road trip has resulted in photographic series that simultaneously document and question personal and collective identities that characterize America. For the past two winters, as the Walker's 2001 Visual Arts artist-in-residence, she has focused on two specific architectural elements in and around the Twin Cities: ice-fishing houses and skyways. Opie's American cities series explores the historical specificity of architectures that are often taken for granted. Her take on the Twin Cities' vernacular landscape has resulted in 26 panoramic black-and-white images of skyways as well as 14 large-format color images of ice-fishing houses. As a photographic project, Catherine Opie: "Skyways & icehouses" provides a meditative portrait of this particular locale. This catalogue, accompanying the exhibition features selected submissions by Minnesota residents who have had particular experiences with and in these local icons. Their short essays animate Opie's empty landscapes with personal anecdotes, memories, poems, and stories. With an introduction by curator Douglas Fogle

Résumé:
Questions of care, intimacy, education, meaningful work, and social engagement lie at the core of our ability to understand the world and its possibilities for human flourishing. In ''Lean on me'' feminist thinker Lynne Segal goes in search of hope in her own life and in the world around her. She finds it entwined in our intimate commitments to each other and our shared collective endeavours. Segal calls this shared dependence ''radical care''. In recounting from her own life the moments of motherhood, and of being on the front line of second-wave feminism, she draws upon lessons from more than half a century of engagement in left feminist politics, with its underlying commitment to building a more egalitarian and nurturing world. The personal and the political combine in this rallying cry to transform radically how we approach education, motherhood, and our everyday vulnerabilities of disability, ageing, and enhanced needs. Only by confronting head-on these different forms of interdependence and care can we change the way we think about the environment and learn to struggle — together —against impending climate catastrophe.

Résumé:
The Folly Cove Designers (officially 1941-1969) was a grassroots collective of predominantly women block printers founded by Caldecott Award-winner and beloved children's book author/illustrator Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios (of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel fame). This trailblazing Gloucester, MA-based group produced more than three hundred distinct designs, which they block printed on fabric. The designs conveyed personal and regional narratives through the use of shared design principles and the compelling language of pattern. The group was propelled to international fame through commercial contracts with major retailers (F. Schumacher, Lord & Taylor, etc.), articles in leading periodicals such as Life, and participation in seminal fine craft exhibitions. Their work continues to inspire contemporary printmakers around the globe, particularly women printmakers. As the first comprehensive history of the Folly Cove Designers, ''Trailblazing women printmakers'' documents and celebrates the group's tremendous success and the incredible artistry of its members. With more than 250 black-and-white and color photographs, author Elena M. Sarni explores the Folly Cove Designers' history, work, and group dynamics.

The current epoch is one of accumulation: not only of capital but also of raw, often unruly material, from plastic in the ocean and carbon in the atmosphere to people, buildings, and cities. Alongside this material growth, image-making practices embedded within the fields of art and architecture have proven to be fertile, mobile, and capacious. Images of accumulation help open up the climate to cultural inquiry and political mobilization and have formed a cultural infrastructure focused on the relationships between humans, other species, and their environments. The essays in ''Accumulation'' address this cultural infrastructure and the methodological challenges of its analysis. They offer a response to the relative invisibility of the climate now seen as material manifestations of social behavior. Contributors outline opportunities and ambitions of visual scholarship as a means to encounter the challenges emergent in the current moment: how can climate become visible, culturally and politically? Knowledge of climatic instability can change collective behavior and offer other trajectories, counteraccumulations that draw the present into a different, more livable, future.

In this publication, Marcus Boon explores music as a material practice of vibration. Focusing on the work of three contemporary musicians—Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Pran Nath, Swedish drone composer and philosopher Catherine Christer Hennix, and Houston-based hip-hop musician DJ Screw—Boon outlines how music constructs a vibrational space of individual and collective transformation. Contributing to a new interdisciplinary field of vibration studies, he understands vibration as a mathematical and a physical concept, as a religious or ontological force, and as a psychological determinant of subjectivity. Boon contends that music, as a shaping of vibration, needs to be recognized as a cosmopolitical practice—in the sense introduced by Isabelle Stengers—in which what music is within a society depends on what kinds of access to vibration are permitted, and to whom. This politics of vibration constitutes the hidden ontology of contemporary music because the organization of vibration shapes individual music scenes as well as the ethical choices that participants in these scenes make about how they want to live in the world.

Résumé:
Photography is one of the principal filters through which we engage the world. The contributors to this volume focus on Walter Benjamin's concept of the optical unconscious to investigate how photography has shaped history, modernity, perception, lived experience, politics, race, and human agency. In essays that range from examinations of Benjamin's and Sigmund Freud's writings to the work of Kara Walker and Roland Barthes's famous Winter Garden photograph, the contributors explore what photography can teach us about the nature of the unconscious. They attend to side perceptions, develop latent images, discover things hidden in plain sight, focus on the disavowed, and perceive the slow. Of particular note are the ways race and colonialism have informed photography from its beginning. The volume also contains photographic portfolios by Zoe Leonard, Kelly Wood, and Kristan Horton, whose work speaks to the optical unconscious while demonstrating how photographs communicate on their own terms. The essays and portfolios in Photography and the Optical Unconscious create a collective and sustained assessment of Benjamin's influential concept, opening up new avenues for thinking about photography and the human psyche.
