Résumé:
Conceptual art was one of the most influential art movements of the second half of the twentieth century. In this book Alexander Alberro traces its origins to the mid-1960s, when its principles were first articulated by the artists Dan Graham, Joseph Kosuth, Sol LeWitt, Lawrence Weiner, and others. One of Alberro's central arguments is that the conceptual art movement was founded not just by the artists but also by the dealer Seth Siegelaub. Siegelaub promoted the artists, curated groundbreaking shows, organized symposia and publications, and in many ways set the stage for another kind of entrepreneur: the freelance curator. Alberro examines both Siegelaub's role in launching the careers of artists who were making "something from nothing" and his tactful business practices, particularly in marketing and advertising. Alberro draws on close readings of artworks produced by key conceptual artists in the mid- to late 1960s. He places the movement in the social context of the rebellion against existing cultural institutions, as well as the increased commercialization and globalization of the art world. The book ends with a discussion of one of Siegelaub's most material and least ephemeral contributions, the Artist's Reserved Rights Transfer and Sale Agreement, which he wrote between 1969 and 1971. Designed to limit the inordinate control of collectors, galleries, and museums by increasing the artist's rights, the Agreement unwittingly codified the overlap between capitalism and the arts.

Résumé:
The first book to look back on Gautherot’s entire career, Marcel Gautherot: The Monograph takes readers through the architect and photographer’s time as an apprentice in Paris, where he attended evening classes and took an ardent interest in Esprit Nouveau and the Bauhaus, as well as their proponents, including Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier. In the 1930s, Gautherot abandoned his studies in architecture to follow his passion for photography. This led him to travel extensively, and he eventually came to live and work in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where he was welcomed by a circle of artists and intellectuals who became important figures in Brazilian culture, including the architects Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle Marx. With 150 superbly reproduced photographs, the book also includes essays by art and photography historians Jacques Leenhardt, Michel Frizot, and Samuel Titan on Gautherot’s affinity for modern architecture and his contribution to the history of photography. It will make the perfect book to reintroduce this important Franco-Brazilian photographer.

Résumé:
This sumptuously illustrated volume presents over 180 outstanding Viennese silver objects representing the period from Neoclassicism to the Wiener Werkstätte. Comparing early eighteenth-century works with examples of twentieth-century design and architecture, it offers a fascinating look at Vienna's contribution to the development of modern decorative arts. The authors demonstrate how the roots of modern design go back further than is generally assumed. Achieving remarkable clarity and formal reduction, Viennese Biedermeier designers created everyday objects of silver with astonishingly straightforward and purposeful forms that remain as progressive as ever today. In turn-of-the-century Vienna, Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser drew inspiration from the intellectual legacy of the period in their designs for the Wiener Werkstätte. Many of the ideas introduced by the Viennese avant-garde were later expressed in such movements as the Bauhaus and De Stijl. By examining this history in all its complexity, the book traces the development of the vocabulary for contemporary design.
