Résumé:
Over a creative career of more than thirty years, Victor Burgin has established an international reputation as an artist and theoretician in the field of both moving and stationary images. Burgin became known in the late 1960s as one of the founders of Conceptual art. During the 1970s, his works consisted mainly of large-format photographic sequences that often involved text. At the beginning of the 1990s he turned to digital video art. This volume documents the many perspectives of the British artist’s reflections on Pompeii. Burgin created this series of images in 2006, while examining a nineteenth-century photograph of Pompeii from the collection of the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal.

Résumé:
The architectural awareness and experience of space, and its creative use can profit greatly from certain aspects of “games” and the related technology. Here the author investigates a fascinating contribution of avant-garde art to the construction of space in the field of electronic games and arcades, beginning with "New Babylon", moving through the radical suggestions of the 1960's and 1970's to the commercial and experimental examples of contemporary amusement arcades. Also considered are the virtual worlds of video games which are growing increasingly complex. The book reveals in a critical way how important the element of “play” has become in today’s digital architectonic designs.

First edition. This book traces the story from early spatial experiments with film and video technologies to the current widespread use of projected images in museums and galleries. Why has there been a turn to the cinematic in contemporary art? What happens to the moving image when it shifts from the black box to the white cube, when cinema is exhibited? How does this challenge the traditional mediums of film, painting and sculpture? This publication gathers together key texts including new, translated and previously unavailable essays by writers and theorists including Giorgio Agamben, Beatriz Colomina, Serge Daney, Rosalind Krauss, Maurizio Lazzaratto and Peter Wollen.

Résumé:
Première monographie dédiée aux mondes oniriques miniatures créés par les animations délicates du jeune artiste vidéaste japonais, avec un essai et un entretien. Hiraki Sawa uses lo-tech video animation to create poetic dreamscapes, ruminations on ideas of time and motion, innocence and alienation, dislocation and displacement. His seminal film ‘Dwelling’ was made while he was still a graduate student at the Slade School of Fine Art and brought him to the attention of the international art world. Certain leitmotifs recur throughout the films – a child’s rocking horse, migrating animals, model jet planes, objects which play out notions of travel and nomadism, of being at home and thinking of elsewhere.
