Description:
Project series AP154.S1.1973.PR01, the Seagram Building interior design and renovation project series (1973) documents several renovation projects for the Seagram Building, 375 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y. The series is arranged in two subseries. The first subseries consists drawings for interior design projects undertaken by Giovanni Pasanella in the 1970s for Joseph E. Seagram and Sons (JES). In 1980, the Seagram Building was sold to the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (TIAA). Attached to the deed of sale was a lease agreement between the landlord TIAA and the tenant JES. The tenant's exclusive rights, which included rights related to modifications to the building, were outlined in Article 26 of the lease agreement. A substantial part of the second subseries is related to projects undertaken since 1980, including projects that have been identified by Tom Stetz as being related to Article 26. The second subseries also includes copies of original working drawings for the Seagram Building, which, under the terms of Article 26, were the standard against which changes to the building would be measured.

In 1973, Vecsei opened her own private practice after her departure from the Dimitri Dimakopoulos’ firm, where she worked from 1971 to 1973. In 1973, Vecsei was hired as an architect by Group Concordia Developers (GCD) to design La Cité, a high density mixed-use residential and commercial project in Milton Park, Montréal. The project was comprised of multifunctional complexes of residential units, offices, a shopping mall, and a hotel with a year-round outdoor pool. The project was realized by the architects Eva H. Vecsei and Dobush Stewart Longpré Marchand Goudreau. The project is also known as "Cité Concordia". The Place Bonaventure was also developed by GCD, where Vecsei was the head project designer from 1964 to 1967. Besides these projects Eva Vecsei Architect also designed concepts for the city centre (1976) and a mixed-use complex (1978) in Karachi, Pakistan. The bulk of the Eva Hollo Vecsei collection is arranged in this series and was produced between 1969 and 2008. Records are predominantly from 1974-1976, which correspond to the period of the La Cité project. Documenting La Cité are architectural records, such as presentation, design, and working drawings, as well as photographs, publications, slides, clippings, digital material (photographs), and a presentation document. This series also includes two clippings on the mixed-use complex in Karachi.

This project series documents the design and construction of the Phoenix House of London office building from 1971-1973, located at 439 University Avenue in Toronto. The office identified the project number as 7105. This project consisted of a 23 storey office building for the publishing company Phoenix House of London Ltd. The building included a five-storey base, a 17 storey tower whose levels had less square footage than the base levels, and three basement levels. Two of the basements were designated for parking, while the other was rentable space. The ground floor was to be used for commercial space. Phoenix House would occupy the 21st tower floor and two and a half base floors, while the rest of the space was available for tenants. In total, the building was 269,135 square feet. The client for this project was David S. Owen of Warrick Consultants Ltd., and the materials often refer to this project as an Office Building for David S. Owen. The project is recorded through drawings, photographs, material samples and textual records dating from around 1971-1978. There are many original sketches of the building design as well as some reprographic copies used for construction. There are also presentation boards of drawings, a project photograph and material samples. The photographs show the construction progress and the completed project. The textual records include correspondence, meeting and site reports, construction documentation, consultancy records, interoffice letters and documentation, contract data, financial records, and documentation on procuring historical artefacts to display inside the building. File AP018.S1.1971.PR03.017 includes an index to the textual records, which was created by the office.
