Description:
This project subseries documents the Parque de Vidago Moradias Turísticas. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 49/00. The office assigned the date 2002 to this project. The project consisted of the modification of rural buildings into vacation homes and artist residences. The building program outlined the recovery of 4 rural buildings with the intention to keep the existing stone walls and wooden roofs. The documentation also highlights the use of the homes as a place for visting artists to stay. This may have been proposed in conjunction with the desire to modify the existing garage into an art exhibition space. These residences are refered to as "Nùcleo Rural" in the documentation. The project was not realized. This project subseries is documented through drawings, photographic materials and textual records dating from 2005-2009. The drawings are mostly printed reprographic copies of CAD drawings, many of which have annotations. These include plans, details and structural, electrical and mechanical drawings. The photographic materials, which are printed digital photos, show the existing buildings and surrounding site. The textual records include technical documentation and specifications, supplier catalogues, building permit documentation, building programs and budgets.

Description:
This project series documents the Parque de Santo Domingo de Bonaval in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 3/90. The office assigned the date 1990 to this project. The project was for the Santo Domingo de Bonaval Park, located in the gardens of the Convent of Santo Domingo de Bonaval and an abandoned cementery. The park was part of the construction of the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporânea and was understood as an extension of it. The design was a collaboration between landscape architect Isabel Aguirre and Álvaro Siza. There was also a restoration component to the project which included restoring the pavement, paths, fountains and walls. The park, measuring 37 047 square metres, included an Eduardo Chillida sculpture. Siza and Aguirre decided not to include trash bins in the park and designed fifty-six benches. The project received the Premio Nacional de Arquitectura Manuel de la Dehesa award in 1997. Documenting this project are studies, preliminary drawings, plans and working drawings. Textual materials include project documentation, notes and correspondence. Photographic materials document the models, project site and built project.

This project series document the Sede da Companhia Dom in Cologne, Germany. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 1/80. The office assigned the date 1980 to this project. The project files document Siza's design for DOM company headquarter's architectural competition. Fifty architects were selected by a jury to propose a design. The client underlined the importance of having a striking visual impact while also putting emphasis on precision, security, protection and technological advancement. Requirements for the building included enough space for 250 employees and a covered parking lot for 50 vehicles. Siza's proposed design was a cylindrical inclined building with a cylindrical hole through the center. A circulation system with elevators, stairs and ramps inside and outside the office spaces was designed to create a " complex promenade architecturale"[1] . Siza's entry was not selected. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, design development drawings and competition drawings. Textual materials include competiton documentation. This project series documents a competition for the Ciudad del Flamenco de Jerez de la Frontera in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 56/00. The office assigned the date 2002 to this project. The competition for the Ciudad del Flamenco was part of an urban revitalization project for the historic center of Jerez. The competition was organized by the Ayuntamiento de Jerez. Six proposals were presented to the jury, including a design by Àlvaro Siza and Juan Miguel Hernández León. The project included the design of an auditorium, a museum, a documentation and research center, a school, and communal spaces. The buildings were to host The National Auditorium of Flamenco Art, the Museum and the Center for Investigation, and Documentation of the Art of Flamenco (CIDAF). The proposal was "a complex of prisms and courtyards wisely articulated between one another, rounded off by a sculptural trapezoidal and cantilevering piece'' (http://ciudaddelflamenco.jerez.es/flash/concurso.pdf p. 6). Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron's proposal won the competition. Documenting this project are studies, competition drawings, and plans. This project series documents the Banco Borges & Irmão II in Vila do Conde, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 46/70. The office assigned the date 1978 to this project. The Banco Borges & Irmão bank was located in the historic part of Vila do Conde, near the Matriz Church. The project site was the same as for the Banco Borges & Irmão I (project series AP178.S1.1977.PR02 in this fonds). The old building was destroyed and Siza built a new bank. The documentation informs us that the design of the building was subject to several changes. This project series contains documentation for several different versions of the building. The building had two floors and a basement. The third floor was used for administrative offices, the second floor for services to the public, and the basement for safety deposits. In 1988, Siza received the Mies van der Rohe prize for this project. Drawings include sketches, studies and working drawings. Textual materials include project documentation, meeting minutes and correspondence. Photographic materials include photographs of the models and the built project. A study model is also included in these materials.

This project series documents the Kolonihaven - Exposição ao ar livre in Copenhagen, Denmark. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 73/90 The office assigned the date 1996 to this project. At the end of the 19th century, there was an important migration of people from the rural areas to the cities in Denmark. Some migrants missed the contact with the soil and decided to built small houses with gardens to help them to adapt to their new urban life. These small Danish houses we're later named Kolonihavehus and became emblematic in Denmark. The exhibition Kolonihaven - The International challenge was held in Copenhagen by the Arken Museum of Modern Art. Fourteen international architects, including Álvaro Siza, Aldo Rossi, Mario Botta, Michael Graves, Arata Isozaki, and Leon Krier were invited to design a 7.5 square meter Danish house. Siza's design was based on his idea of a house as a child mixed with his memories of a trip to Scandinavia. The fourteen architects also participated in the exhibition "Major Projects" at the Køge Museum, in Køge, Danmark. The exhibition focused on the sketches and preliminary drawings of majort projects by each architect. Documenting this project are sketches and documentation.
