Résumé:
In this large-format book, photographer Yukio Futagawa recounts his pilgrimage to Le Corbusier’s modernist villa in Ahmedabad, India, built between 1951-56. A symbol of the architect’s domestic architecture, the private residence integrates traditional features of local design, such as the double-height living room on the ground level, with key aspects like sun, wind and landscaping. The raw concrete form frames the open character of its interior spaces and the overall plan, a five-level cube divided by beams and slabs.

Hanezawa Garden is a walled garden in Tokyo, between thick foliage, slender bamboo and semi-inhabited outhouses, their plastic roofs heavy with leaves, as if reclaimed by the jealous trees. This book by Swedish photographer Anders Erdström documents the garden and peripheral details: a sealed cardboard box, lingering on a sill, or the receding body of a workman. Hanezawa Garden was demolished by the real estate developer Mitsubishi Estate in 2012, despite countless attempts by local residence to preserve the house and gardens.

Résumé:
This edition highlights two houses by Oscar Niemeyer, the Brazilian modernist architect. Known as Casa das Canoas and Casa Cavanelas, both residences are located in Rio de Janeiro and both were built in the early 1950s. Yet, according to the essay by Yoshio Futagawa, the contrast between them is quite intriguing. The former, Niemeyer’s own residence, demonstrates the spatial truth in privacy that the architect explored; the latter startles the viewer with spectacular features orchestrated through Niemeyer’s collaboration with landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx.

Résumé:
Aires Mateus, brothers and partners in architecture, present a key work in this monograph, one that expresses the essence of their design thinking. Designed as a patio house, the residence sits in the hills of Grandola and faces the sea. Its lower floor solves relations with the wild topography, while its main floor spaces are large and volumetrically high, accommodating precise functions and atmospheres. Photographed in and illustrated by sections and floor plans, the house is given a special place in the oeuvre of the Portuguese architects.

With insights into the history and conception of the house, as well as its design and authors, the text shows how Pierre Chareau, an interior designer in charge of design and planning, positioned this residence as a prototype of a Modernist manifesto. Stunning colour and black-and-white photographs once again reinforce the status of the Maison de Verre among the great works of architecture.

Résumé:
Planned in 1930/31 in extremely difficult circumstances, it is a minor miracle that the Cité Internationale Universitaire Swiss halls of residence, when built, so closely resembled Le Corbusier's original innovative design. The Pavillon Suisse has accommodated Swiss students in Paris since it was opened in July 1933. This monograph is the result of years of dedicated research into every aspect of the building -- socio-political premises, planning, design and construction, the aesthetic and functional achievements it represents, and Le Corbusier's own renovations in 1948, 1953, and 1957.

Résumé:
Chicago, like many urban centers throughout the world, has recently undergone a surge in new construction, grafting a new layer of architectural experimentation onto those of past eras. In early 2007, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, with the support of U.S. Equities Realty, invited Michael Wolf as an artist-in-residence to document this phenomenon. Bringing his unique perspective on changing urban environments to a city renowned for its architectural legacy, Wolf chose to photograph the central downtown area, focusing specifically on issues of voyeurism and the contemporary urban landscape in flux.
