Résumé:
The Paris-based architecture firm Experience is headed by Tristan Chadney, Laurent Esmilaire, and Éric Lapierre. They describe their approach towards architecture as cultural and typological, where they venture in search of the “marvellous”. Experience’s meditations on architectural form are so rational that they sometimes loop into the surreal, a paradox apparent in the nineteen works presented in this issue: Palaiseau Student Housing, Chris Marker Residence, Berthelot Collective Housing, Verdeaux School Complex, and more. Notably, the firm imagines housing not as a mechanical repetition of units but as a system of heterogenous parts akin to a living organism.

Their studio, which occupies a former residence, is a workshop where the practical work of design merges with academics, friends, and colleagues; a place that itself is an accumulation of projects and of the realities that have passed through it over the years. This book revisits nine key projects in the duo’s internationally acclaimed oeuvre, including Liquid Light (Venice, 2018), Mills Museum (Palma de Mallorca, 2016), Building 111 (Barcelona, 2011), and Yutes Warehouse (Barcelona, 2005), plus collected images, models, and a conversation with Antoni Miralda.

Résumé:
Famed as the birthplace of that icon of twentieth-century architecture, the skyscraper, Chicago also cultivated a more humble but no less consequential form of modernism--the private residence. ''Modern in the middle: Chicago houses 1929-75'' explores the substantial yet overlooked role that Chicago and its suburbs played in the development of the modern single-family house in the twentieth century. In a city often associated with the outsize reputations of Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the examples discussed in this illustrated book expand and enrich the story of the region's built environment.

Résumé:
The most pivotal and yet least understood event of Frank Lloyd Wright’s celebrated life involves the brutal murders in 1914 of seven adults and children dear to the architect and the destruction by fire of Taliesin, his landmark residence, near Spring Green, Wisconsin. Supplying both a gripping mystery story and a portrait of the artist in his prime, William Drennan wades through the myths surrounding Wright and the massacre, casting fresh light on the formulation of Wright’s architectural ideology and the cataclysmic effects that the Taliesin murders exerted on the fabled architect and on his subsequent designs.

Résumé:
A monograph dedicated to Gerrit Rietveld, perhaps the most well-known Dutch architect. Besides his iconic Schröder House, very little is known about the roughly 100 houses Rietveld designed and built during his career. These houses are characterised by light and space, and sobriety is a basic principle in his approach. Only a small group of intellectual clients commissioned him to design an avant-garde residence. Photographer Arjan Bronkhorst went in search of these unknown houses, photographing their interiors and residents, while authors Willemijn Zwikstra and Marc van den Eerenbeemt explored archives and interviewed current residents about living in a Rietveld house.

Résumé:
This is a publication about seeing versus not seeing, about gender, class and climate, a work about representation and reproduction. In short, a vehicle for perception and togetherness. After leaving an artist in residence in Japan spring 2019 and being back in Amsterdam Markus felt the need for silence and contemplation. Intuitively she built a studio setting in the forest and a photographic process began. It started with a found tarpaulin; the same kind of blue tarp that is a common sight in Japan and if one looks closer most often a shelter for someone homeless appears.

Résumé:
Ghosts deals with important art objects which have been misplaced, damaged, stolen or have otherwise disappeared from public view. In the 1980s and 90s, the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston and the Earl of Bath’s residence in England both lost some of their most prestigious works to thefts and accidents. In this volume, which combines her series on both museums, Sophie Calle embarks on a quest to resurrect the memory of these pieces. She explores their personal meaning to those museum employees and others who knew the works intimately, in a series of profiles on each individual.
