Résumé:
This book is the first overall presentation of Silberkuppe. Since it’s founding in May 2008, Silberkuppe has become one of Berlin’s most outstanding independent spaces for contemporary art. This catalogue comes as a result of the exhibition “Under One Umbrella” (2010) in Bergen Kunsthall, a project that was the culmination of a series of institutional group exhibitions in which Silberkuppe extended their practice out from their own micro-space. It takes the form of a “photographic report” documenting all of Silberkuppe’s main exhibitions and events, as well as presenting several essays related to the projects.

Résumé:
Architectural collections are warehouses of knowledge: they are resources for historical plans and buildings, and they offer insight and ideas for the designs of tomorrow. However, in the age of computer-aided design, the sketches, plans and models that were once available for research and exhibitions are being replaced by bits and bytes on a variety of storage media whose lifetimes have no guaranteed length. The Architekturmuseum at the Technical University in Munich has one of the largest special collections of architecture in Europe. This publication presents its complex history while placing it in the context of other prominent international collections. Selected examples are used to discuss questions about collecting, research and the exhibition of architecture in the future.

Résumé:
The significance of Jean-François Lyotard's innovative 1985 exhibition Les Immatériaux and the “curatorial turn” in critical theory. In 1985, the philosopher Jean-François Lyotard curated Les Immatériaux at Centre Georges Pompidou. Though widely misunderstood at the time, the exhibition marked a “curatorial turn” in critical theory. Through its experimental layout and hybrid presentation of objects, technologies, and ideas, this pioneering exploration of virtuality reflected on the exhibition as a medium of communication and anticipated a deeper engagement with immersive and digital space in both art and theory. In Spacing Philosophy, Daniel Birnbaum and Sven-Olov Wallenstein analyze the significance and logic of Lyotard's exhibition while contextualizing it in the history of exhibition practices, the philosophical tradition, and Lyotard's own work on aesthetics and phenomenology. Les Immatériaux can thus be seen as a culmination and materialization of a life's work as well as a primer for the many thought-exhibitions produced in the following decades.

Textes d’Emmanuel Alloa, Hervé Aubron, Matthias Bruhn, Yves Citton, Elena Esposito, Jean-Joseph Goux, Maurizio Lazzarato, Catherine Malabou, Marie Rebecchi et Elena Vogman, Antonio Somaini, Peter Szendy, Leah Temper, Dork Zabunyan.

Résumé:
"New museum design" provides a critical and compelling selective survey of contemporary international museum design since 2010. It provides an accessible and analytic review of the architectural landscape of museum and gallery design in the 2010s. The book comprises twelve case study museum and gallery projects from across Europe, Asia, North America, Africa, the Middle East and Australia. Each built example is interrogated through an essay and a series of beautiful supporting illustrations and drawings. Where appropriate architectural analysis is cross-scale, extending from consideration of the artefact’s encounter with museum space at the most intimate scale, through detailed architectural readings, to the wider perspective of urban/landscape response. Similarly, the book is not confined in its thematic or architectural ‘typological’ scope, including museums and art galleries, as well as remodellings, extensions and new build examples. "New museum design" provides a critical snapshot of contemporary international museum architecture, in order to: better understand reasons for the state of current practice; reveal and explore on-going themes and approaches in the field; and to point towards seminal future design directions. This book is essential reading for any student or professional interested in museum design.

Résumé:
An analysis of four museums by architectural historian Orietta Lanzarini, built between the 1940s and 1960s, and set up by four of the most groundbreaking Italian architects of the 20th century. With different approaches and strategies, Franco Albini, BBPR, Lina Bo Bardi and Carlo Scarpa rethought and redesigned the Second World War's museums and their purposes. Despite their intrinsic differences, the four case studies show how all these architects' projects sought to achieve two common purposes: to make art education accessible to everyone and to highlight the value of history in building the present.
