Résumé:
In his lifetime, "Xanti" (Alexander) Schawinsky (1904-79) was best known for his work in the theater department at the Bauhaus. Fleeing Germany before the beginning of the Second World War, he landed at Black Mountain College in North Carolina, where in the 1930s he developed his theory of the "Spectodrama." Involving multimedia productions examining elementary phenomena such as space, motion, light, sound or color from scientific, technical and performance-based perspectives, the Spectodrama represents an early form of the "happening." Beyond the avant-garde utopias of the Bauhaus and his proto-happening art, Schawinsky also worked as a painter and graphic designer.

Costa da Caparica is a place, south of Lisboa - a strip of land that exists between the last stretch of civilization and the beach. In COSTA, we wander through this territory: shacks, outmoded architecture, remains of houses, dirt left by the tide; an agglomeration of sand, vegetation and streets – a peripheral, end-of-the-line location. In COSTA, we wander through this territory: shacks, outmoded architecture, remains of houses, dirt left by the tide; an agglomeration of sand, vegetation and streets – a peripheral, end-of-the-line location. We are flooded by a strange luminosity; a dazzling and mysterious light which imbues these spaces with a disconcerting and unreal atmosphere, like something seen while in a hypnotic state, encouraging the spectator to participate in a suggestive and paradoxical exploration of individual experience.

Résumé:
A concrete tree trunk growing in the middle of a commercial street in Tokyo, an airport terminal that looks almost like a bird's wing, a skyscraper facade that seems to move like ocean waves, a visitors' center perfectly integrated into the landscape of Taiwan's largest lake - nature is everpresent in Japanese architect Norihiko Dan's buildings. His architecture never stands alone, for Dan always seeks symbiosis; this appears in his combination of geometric-archetypical with organic forms, in his urban planning projects, which bring submerged historic and cultural identities back to light, as well as in the ecological orientation of his buildings.

Résumé:
Two houses built in the United States during the 1990s and totally different from each other in terms of site, required programs and silhouette. The Stretto House in Dallas derives its name from a music piece by Bartok using the ‘stretto’ method in which Holl attempted to architecturize the analogy between the sound-time relationship in this music and the light-space relationship in this house. The “Y” House was built in the Catskills Mountains in the state of New York on a remote hilly terrain as a weekend retreat. Both houses demonstrate the strategy and manipulation that grow out of Holl’s architectural thinking.

Résumé:
From universalism to colonial politics, from a close observation of co-approaches hoping to instigate change to the exotic and exploitative thoughts of designers themselves, the contents of this issue of ''Raddar'' share a critical stance in their examination from specific angles and subjects. Yet they also avoid taking a traditional approach, aiming to shed light on the underlying aspects. Encompassing historical Indochina, contemporary Lebanon, African and American odysseys, inclusive imaginary typographics, multinational practices, and more, its scope invites readers to explore other dimensions for critical study. Design politics seeks to move beyond the separation of design and politics, because all design activity is inherently also political activity.

The late Matt Wrbican, former chief archivist of the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, once said ''there are very few stories left to tell about Warhol, but textiles is one of them''. This is the first book devoted to the commercial textile designs of this leading figure in the history of art. With new photography throughout, including unpublished images of newly discovered textiles, the book sheds new light on a previously undocumented but important aspect of Warhol’s oeuvre. Featuring over 30 different textiles, from ice cream sundaes to acrobatic clowns, ''Warhol: The textiles'' offers a unique record of the beginnings of one of the twentieth century’s most notable artists.

Ari Marcopoulos is an Amsterdam-born photographer and filmmaker who often situates himself in the lives of people living on the edge. He shot this series during one February afternoon in Exarcheia, a neighbourhood in central Athens which is famously known as home to Greek anarchists. Through 352 colourful pictures of graffiti and crumbling concrete walls, a coherent urban portrait comes to light, as if Marcopoulos was scanning the area through his camera lens. The entire series remains unedited in the layout of the book, presenting an accurate reflection of a district that still preserves the memory of decades of resistance to state repression.

Résumé:
What started as an easy solution – trawling through the magazine’s archives in search of interviews and conversations to bundle and reprint – turned into a complex analysis of “datedness”. Blind spots were revealed, old trends came to light, instances of amnesia emerged, and sometimes it seemed like nothing had changed. The editors decided to give the original interviewees and writers a chance to reflect, perhaps redeem themselves, even decades later. Some were unable and others were no longer reachable. So they asked respected colleagues and experts to comment or give their own context instead. The result is illuminating, a truly layered celebration of the space in between.
