Résumé:
My Futurist Past documents the full richness of Munari's playful, irreverent and endlessly creative career, from the artistic research of his Futurist phase and early investigation of the possibilities of kinetic sculpture--the first "mobiles" in the history of Italian art--to the immediate postwar years during which he became a leading figure of abstract painting, and his subsequent experiments with projected light and installation-based work (reflecting his belief that technological advances only expanded the artist's expressive vocabulary). The catalogue includes 280 reproductions in color alongside scholarly texts, and reveals Munari as one of the most complex, creative and multifaceted figures of twentieth-century Italian art.

Résumé:
This large-format monograph on the famed Japanese architect covers six years of theory and practice through an exhaustive look at over 60 projects, from large (V at Dundee, Sanlitum SOHO in Beijing) to small (Sake no Hana in London, Lake House). Kengo Kuma is known for achieving a new kind of transparency in architecture, and is not bound by using only traditional light materials. Included is his essay, Small Architecture, which gives valuable insight into his view that great disasters, not the progress of technology, have been architectures driving force throughout history, with the most recent example being the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

Résumé:
Flower artist Makoto Azuma and botanical photographer Shunsuke Shiinoki present a second edition of their vibrant anthology, two years after the first. Focusing on the ephemeral nature of flowers while working to conserve in a concrete, tangible form the passage of time they embody, the authors use two techniques. The first highlights the flowers’ features and sense of presence by picturing them from overhead. The second applies a lateral perspective to capture the life force of plants as they stretch towards the sun. In contrast to the first edition, natural light sources were used as much as possible to illuminate the exceptionally dense and colourful palettes on display.

Most of us hardly ever think about those ubiquitous things that hang—along with wreaths, light fixtures, and the occasional delivery attempt notice—at our front door: house numbers, our address. Taken for granted in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, house numbers have the crucial burden of organizing the places of the world—and they do it with zero fanfare or appreciation. In this unique illustrated history, Anton Tantner pays long-overdue tribute to those unassuming combinations of digits, showing that house numbers haven’t always existed, and that they have their own interesting history, one he spells out with vivid images from around the world.

Résumé:
In light of the acute problems caused by human-induced transformation of the earth and its ecosystems we must reconsider at a fundamental level, and in slow, subtle and matter-of-fact ways how we understand and interact with the world of things. World of Matter, first a museum exhibition, developed into an international project investigating raw materials and the complex ecologies of which they are a part. The wide range of aesthetic and ethical approaches to the handling of resources in many world regions and post-national spaces that are presented in this book challenge the capitalistic assumption that the planet s materials are primarily for human consumption

Résumé:
"This is an experiential architecture, not a theoretical one. It is grounded in reality, not in abstract dogma, yet it seeks the transcendent, every bit as earnestly - perhaps even more so - then architecture that is built on pure theory. It is the way space, texture, light, materials actually feel that motivates these architects, and it is their skill at manipulating these elements that gives their work the rigor and strength it possesses. This architecture is marked by a sense of a self-assured and sensual presence, shaped by light, texture, materiality and scale. It should almost go without saying at this point that in an age in which most architects actively seek to achieve the identity of a "look," Olson Sundberg's work eschews simple similarities. Certain principles are evident from one building to another, as is the absence of direct historical replication, but consistency is not the same as a packageable style. Indeed, a single, easily identifiable style is something that these architects not only do not have but seem actively to discourage, as if its presence could be taken as a sign that their firm was not sufficiently cognizant of the widely varying demands that are inherent in different clients' programs, sites and esthetic preferences. They seem determined to prove that consistency of belief need not yield similarity of visual appearance – and that it is possible to produce a coherent body of work that does not look precisely the same." Excerpted from the introduction written by Paul Goldberger.

Résumé:
This monograph of work and projects by Venezuelan-born, Swiss-based architect Christian Kerez seeks to elucidate his particular approach, which emphasises how architecture does not exist in and of itself, but is rather a reflection of a practice of questioning, and of working with the unexpected. At its core, the things we take for granted must be seen again, in a new light. Architecture critic Erwin Viray delves into this kind of reasoning in a conversation with Kerez, while the book beautifully presents examples of his designs, among them, a high-rise in Zhengzhou, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, social housing in Paraisópolis and a school building in Munich.

Résumé:
In the decades following the Second World War, women from all walks of life became increasingly frustrated by the world around them. Drawing on long-standing political traditions, these women bound together to revolutionize social norms and contest gender inequality. In Montreal, women activists inspired by Red Power, Black Power, and Quebec liberation, among other social movements, mounted a multifront campaign against social injustice. Bringing to light previously overlooked archival and oral sources, Amanda Ricci introduces a new cast of characters to the history of feminism in Quebec. The book presents a unique portrait of the resurgence of feminist activism, demonstrating its deep roots in Indigenous and Black communities, its transnational scope, and its wide-ranging inspirations and preoccupations.
