Résumé:
Born in 1944, Christian Hauvette, studied under the philosopher Roland Barthes before going on to train as an architect. Since 1980 he has headed his own office in Paris. Today, Hauvette is one of France’s leading architects. His architecture is characterised by a clear, constructive purpose which is at the same time highly expressive. Jean Prouvé’s theories are much in evidence in his work. This monograph provides an in-depth overview on the buildings and projects of the 90s, including the School of Waters and Forests in Clermont-Ferrand and his sensational headquarters of the Caisse Française de Développement in Paris, analysing the essential characteristics of Hauvette’s creativity.

Résumé:
Fifty years after the Fall of Saigon and twenty years after her family’s emigration to America, Minh Nguyen returns to her native Vietnam to find out what’s left of the old revolutionary project. In Memorial Park, a collection of essays pairing travelogue and criticism, Nguyen encounters relics of proletarian romance and vestiges of authoritarian control amid an evermore corporatized society. Along the way, she considers how contemporary artspeak confuses state censors, the rise of luxury "Smart Cities" as they supplant socialist housing complexes, and the enduring appeal of propaganda signs that once promised utopia. Driven by a diasporic curiosity that seeks discovery over dwelling on loss, "Memorial Park" avoids nostalgic idealism or reflexive condemnation. Instead, Nguyen takes seriously the legacy of Vietnamese liberation by naming what it has become—and what it has not.

Résumé:
A bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom - are these rooms all that make a home? Not at all, argues Emanuele Coccia. The buildings we inhabit are of immense psychological and cultural significance. They play a decisive role in human flourishing and, for hundreds of years, their walls and walkways, windows and doorways have guided our relationships with others and with ourselves. They reflect and reinforce social inequalities; they allow us to celebrate and cherish those we love. They are the places of return that allow us to venture out into the world. In this intimate, elegantly argued account, Coccia shows how the architecture of home has shaped, and continues to shape, our psyches and our societies, before then masterfully leading us towards a more creative, ecological way of dwelling in the world.

Résumé:
Throughout the twentieth century, housing displays have proven to be a singular genre of architectural and design exhibitions. By crossing geographies and adopting multiple scales of observation – from domestic space to urban visions – this volume investigates a set of unexplored events devoted to housing and dwelling, organised by technical, professional, cultural or governmental institutions from the interwar years to the Cold War. The book offers a first critical assessment of twentieth-century housing exhibits and explores the role of exhibitions in the codification of notions of domesticity, social models, policies, and architectural and urban discourse. At the intersection of housing studies and the history of exhibitions, ''The Housing Project'' not only offers a novel angle on architectural history but also enriches scholarly perspectives in urban studies, cultural and media history, design, and consumption studies.

Résumé:
Le Corbusier's Pavilion for Zurich uses numerous handwritten documents, drawings, and papers to trace the history of Le Corbusier's last built work. This dwelling, which is also a museum, was initiated by Zurich gallery owner Heidi Weber. With its abstract forms and colors, it represents an intellectual legacy of the famous architect in which the further development of architecture as envisaged by Le Corbusier is clearly legible. From the first ideas and sketches from and beyond, the genesis of this exceptional building - the completion of which the architect did not live to see - is presented with illustrations and documents. This book explains the significance of the pavilion, which differs strongly from the beton brut of Le Corbusier's late work, in terms of its position as one of the architect's central and forward-looking works.

Résumé:
The storybook history of the American West is a male-dominated narrative of drifters, dreamers, hucksters, and heroes--a tale that relegates women, assuming they appear at all, to the distant background. Home Lands: How Women Made the West upends this view to remember the West as a place of homes and habitations brought into being by the women who lived there. Virginia Scharff and Carolyn Brucken consider history's long span as they explore the ways in which women encountered and transformed three different archetypal Western landscapes: the Rio Arriba of northern New Mexico, the Front Range of Colorado, and the Puget Sound waterscape. This book vividly reimagines the West as a setting in which home has been created out of differing notions of dwelling and family and differing concepts of property, community, and history.

Résumé:
Jean-Pascal Flavien's work involves the design and conception of houses that reconfigure domestic space to produce unorthodox living arrangements. A particular form of thinking gives rise to a physical form of dwelling, and the use of these structures furthers his artistic approach via experiments within the space as well as through written texts, films and other activities. Thus far, four of the Berlin-based artist s installations have been realized: Viewer (2007), Rio de Janeiro; No Drama House (2009), Berlin; Two Persons House (2010), São Paulo; and Breathing House (2012), Pougues-les-Eaux, France. This catalog, published on the occasion of Flavien's exhibition at the Centre d'art contemporain du Parc Saint-Léger and the Kunstverein Langenhagen, is an arrangement of these independent parts following the development of the artist's most recent houses.
