Résumé:
Dusk, the transitional hour bridging day and night, symbolizes the border between conscious and unconscious, light and dark or life and death. Further, in ancient Japanese culture, dusk was considered to be the time when one might encounter dark creatures. The images of "At dusk" are to visualize inner reality of a person who has been through change in her life, moving from one culture to another. While it is a personal project, it has a possibility to be collective, triggering similar evocative effects in a viewer’s mind. The images exist somewhere between reality and fantasy, and those often somber images are inspired by the fragmented memories of my childhood, long discarded fears and vaguely recalled nightmares.

"The bra". "The box kite". "The cat". "The milk carton". "The reclining Picasso". These are the playful names given to the eccentric beach houses of Andrew Geller. Built in the 1950s and 1960s, these vacation homes reflected the idea of summer leisure for a generation more concerned with fun on the beach than ostentatious display. For clients in the Hamptons, on the Jersey shore, and in New England, Geller built dozens of houses, most of wood and most on modest budgets. Geller, who worked with Raymond Loewy and directed the design of such modernist landmarks as the Lever House in New York, combined a modern interest in light, breeze, and functional living with playful form-making.

Résumé:
Architect and propagandist of the modern movement, Alberto Sartoris (1901-1998) assembled a remarkable photography collection of modern architecture, published in part in two anthologies that have since achieved mythical stature: «Gli elementi dell'architettura funzionale» and «l'Encyclopédie de l'architecture nouvelle». These photographs document the architectural works around the world, from Le Corbusier to Luis Barragàn, photographed by the best specialists of their period. This work presents the collection that Alberto Sartoris donated to the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. It also throws light on a poorly understood aspect of twentieth century architecture, namely, the mechanisms behind the creation and diffusion of the «image of modern architecture», as well as the determining role played by photography in this process.

The textures andcolors of human-altered landscapes are endlessly fascinating. Seeing andphotographing this landscape from the air has opened up for me new ways ofcreative expression. Construction sites change by the day, and the light andexposure are never the same. Wood, steel, and concrete relate to each other ininfinite varieties of order and disorder." "Work in progress" is a unique vision of a human-altered landscape.

Nobody writes about art like Estelle Hoy. Overpriced cheesecakes are the starting point for an essay on art writing; shoplifting in Berlin opens to a reflection on the economies of activist practices; fiction allows for discussion of the legacy of institutional critique, queer mélanges or quiet melancholy. To her, the story of art becomes more nuanced in light of lyrics by Arthur Russell, the posthumous sorrow of Sylvia Plath or a poem by Yvonne Rainer. "Saké Blue" gathers Hoy’s critical essays and reviews, primarily on women artists. Echoing the work of Hervé Guibert or Camille Henrot, Hoy’s writing suggests that art can be the place for subjectivities to take shape in relation to forms, ideas and the other.

Résumé:
This is the first major English-language study of factography, an avant-garde movement of 1920s modernism. Devin Fore charts this style through the work of its key figures, illuminating factography’s position in the material culture of the early Soviet period and situating it as a precursor to the genre of documentary that arose in the 1930s. Factographers employed photography and film practices in their campaign to inscribe facts and to chronicle modernization as it transformed human experience and society. Fore considers factography in light of the period’s explosion of new media technologies—including radio broadcasting, sound in film, and photo-media innovations—that allowed the press to transform culture on a massive scale.

Résumé:
The book "Visible: Art as policies for care. Socially engaged art (2010–Ongoing)" was born from the editors' enduring curatorial research into long-term situated art projects that exist within the social sphere, beyond the logic of the traditional art system, confronting unjust systems, and prefiguring novel visions for living together. The socially engaged art projects collected here hold a significant place in the constantly evolving trans-local art scene of the past two decades, and form a lens through which to observe changing realities and their urgencies; they redefine the concept of art in light of current climatic, political, and social changes and foster the dematerialization of the artwork in processes that become policies of culture and care.

Concluding the exploration, the book’s final chapter sheds light on the architecture of present-day St. Paul. " St. Paul’s architecture " presents more than 225 notable surviving buildings and the history of several neighborhoods of the city.

Résumé:
More than any building material, light produces spatial effects, generates moods, and “stages” architectural designs. Moreover, especially in office buildings, the combination of a sensible natural lighting design with a corresponding approach to artificial lighting is a decisive factor in energy conservation. Assembled by experienced authors and experts from the worlds of practice and teaching, this volume in the series "Detail praxis" provides an introduction to the most important aspects of natural and artificial lighting design. In addition to straightforward planning rules — such as ground plan design, building orientation, and the structuring of facades — it also introduces and explains current natural and artificial lighting systems with the help of example projects. With 200 illus., 124 in colour.

We live in a time of condessions, both voluntary and forced - a time when more and more of our personal information and behavior is recorded, archived, and shared. This is not only due to government surveillance, but increasingly because our ways of communicating (via camera phones, e-mail, etc.) make it difficult for us to control who has access to information about us. The New Normal features works made between 2001 and 2008 that draw on private information - ranging from home videos to financial data - for their raw material and subject matter. These works, and the catalogue essays, shed light on the new circumstances created by our highly technological society, in which private information has never been less private.
