Résumé:
Joseph Cornell (1903–1972) was one of the 20th century’s leading exponents of collage and assemblage. A connoisseur of an astonishing array of subjects, Cornell’s captivation with bygone imagery encompassed astronomical charts and geographical maps, Italian and Spanish Old Master paintings, historical ballet, early film, literature, poetry, and ornithology. Most iconic among his works are his box constructions—microcosmic curiosity cabinets—filled with once-precious fragments that he collected in thrift shops in his native New York.

Résumé:
A towering figure in the worlds of literature, cinema, and visual art, Jean Cocteau was one of the most influential creative artists of the twentieth century. In this collection of brief--often aphoristic--meditations, he reflects on the nature of beauty itself. Ranging over painters, poets, and musicians, Cocteau offers brilliant insights into the essential loneliness of the artistic vocation. As well as throwing new light on the author's own creative achievement, "Secrets of beauty" is a vital contribution to aesthetic theory.

Résumé:
"Zickzack" is the German word for "zigzag": hopping around, moving back and forth, never following a straight line, avoiding the monotony of one thing following another. This book is William Firebrace's zigzagging exploration of six places on the edges of the German-speaking world. Deploying essays, narration, conversations, descriptions, and lists, Firebrace celebrates locations on defined and undefined borders, where cultures, languages, and histories mix. In his nonlinear wandering, he touches on ethnicity, topography, history, film, literature, myth, languages, and gastronomy.
