In the 1960s and ’70s, Price began to look for answers to some of the pressing problems he saw in society in the tenets of architecture and design. His intense intellectual curiosity soon led him to other disciplines, including the social and natural sciences, while his sense of humor and self-irony—which also extended to his profession—allowed him to keep his ideas in perspective. With "The city and the architecture of change", Tanja Herdt offers a comprehensive look back at the life and work of Price. Based on extensive research, including previously unpublished materials, Herdt provides a thorough account of Price’s key architectural concepts and visions, and then analyzes his perspectives on the city as a system, the influence of products and contemporary culture on architecture, and the role of science and technology in architecture and design. In his Underground House, Mollier House, and Omnisport Hall, Rahm forces us to consider the odor of soil and the emissions from our body as the natural context of a future architecture. [Cero 9]'s design for the Magic Mountain captures excess heat emitted from a power generator in Ames, Iowa, to fuel a rose garden that embellishes the industrial site and creates a natural mountain rising above the city's skyline. Subnature looks beyond leed ratings, green roofs, and solar panels toward a progressive architecture based on a radical new conception of nature.

Toshiko Mori is the principal of Toshiko Mori Architect, which was established in 1981 in New York. Her firm's work has been widely published and has received awards and prizes internationally. Current work includes houses in Maine, Florida, and New York; the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine; and several projects in New York City. Mori often exhibits her work, sometimes in collaboration with artists, and she is an active participant in and organizer of symposia and competition programs. She is an advisor to the Montreal Museum for Decorative Arts and the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation. This book was published on the occasion of a lecture given at the School of Architecture and Planning at SUNY Buffalo.
