The 14 Bauhaus books, edited by Walter Gropius and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, were published between 1925 and 1930. Their authors discussed design principles, practices, and artistic approaches from various perspectives. Johannes Rinkenburger has examined and researched the contents and key concepts of this avant-garde series of books along with their backgrounds and context and elaborates their application and importance for current design schools. Résumé:
In its architectural practice, Elemental responds to an awareness of the intervention context, the socio-cultural and economic dimension, and the recognition of the necessities and eventual deficiencies present. Examining the elementary way this Chilean collective approaches subjects is the focus of this issue. Developing works of very different scales, from individual dwellings to intervention studies at the urban scale, or even provincial planning, founder and Pritzker Prize winner Alejandro Aravena and his team clearly have their origins in South American architecture, yet also show an increasingly socially-engaged and global dimension: simplicity, perpetuality, efficiency, and utility.

Résumé:
The new generation of Mexican architecture is represented by Taller Héctor Barroso and Estudio Macías Peredo, two offices whose work emerges in harmony with the surrounding site, generating spaces with an emotional content that evoke memory and highlight the habitable quality of their architecture. Projects by the former, established by Barroso in Mexico City in 2011, often take advantage of the natural resources of each place, including local materials and construction methods. Estudio Macías Peredo was launched in 2012 in Guadalajara, with a special focus on the local context. This developing interest has become the central theme of their approach.

Résumé:
Toronto has been called the Estonian capital abroad, because it is where the largest and most active community of Estonian immigrants was located. Revolutionary in its architecture and social aims, modernism’s post-war emergence was at odds with the cautious, evolutionary nature of Canadian culture. But in the context of growing internationalism, a large number of Estonians began to find success in private practice, influencing Toronto’s cultural landscape and new ideas in architectural discourse. The largely untold story of their remarkable impact on the city and their contribution to an emerging Canadian identity has driven the research presented in this volume.

The book finally gives the stage to contributors working at the forefront of this revolution. From Harvard to Foster & Partners, their perspectives provide a panorama of the discourse surrounding AI’s presence in the field.
