Résumé:
From his first buildings completed in Houston, Texas, in the 1980s and ’90s, which earned him international recognition, Carlos Jiménez’s architecture has evolved to address different scales and programmes. Yet at the same time his vision has maintained an attention to context, interest in typological research, and a pursuit of total complicity with the client. Covering three decades of work, this monograph is illustrated with the architect’s sketches and photographs by Paul Hester. Starting from the Carlos Jiménez Studio, an ongoing project begun in 1983 and also the architect’s professional studio, all of the featured projects are in the United States, with many in Houston.

Louise Bourgeois: An Unfolding Portrait explores the prints and books of the celebrated sculptor. This little-known body of work is vast in scope?numbering some 1,200 individual compositions?and highly significant within her larger practice. These works encompass the same themes and motifs that occupied Bourgeois throughout her career, and they are explored here within the context of related sculptures, drawings and early paintings. This investigation sheds light on Bourgeois’ creative process overall, most vividly through the evolving print states and variants that led to her final compositions; seeing these sequences unfold is akin to looking over the artist’s shoulder as she worked.

Résumé:
The "Green Heart" exhibition showcases the "Marina One" project by ingenhoven architects, which will open in the center of Singapore at the end of 2017. As an international role model for living and working, "Marina One" makes an innovative contribution to the discourse on mega-cities, especially in tropical regions, which, in the context of increasing population and climate change, face enormous challenges. The high-density building complex with its mix of uses extends to over 400,000 square meters and, with its group of four high-rise buildings, defines the "Green Heart"—a public space extending over several stories. This three-dimensional green oasis reflects the diversity of tropical flora.

Résumé:
In light of the recent spate of revelations detailing abuses of power within the culture sector, the March issue of "Texte zur Kunst" considers art’s relation to rules—or rather, the exceptions to them that art and its agents seem to claim. How, then, to speak of rules in the context of art, where transgressions are lauded even while traditional hierarchies continue to assert their influence? And would we demand anything less of art than the promise of disobedience, rule breaking both in terms of formal restrictions and normative regulation? Articles by Katharina Hausladen, Josephine Pryde, Christoph Menke, Lucy McKenzie, Hal Foster, Coco Fusco, and Clemens Apprich.

Résumé:
Squeezed between the two rival Cold War blocs, Yugoslav architecture consistently adhered to a modernist trajectory. As a founding nation of the Non-Aligned Movement, Yugoslavia became a major exporter of modernist architecture to Africa and the Middle East in a postcolonial world. By merging a variety of local traditions and contemporary international influences in the context of a unique Yugoslav brand of socialism, often described as the “Third Way,” local architects produced a veritable “parallel universe” of modern architecture during the 45 years of the country’s existence. This remarkable body of work has sparked recurrent international interest, yet a rigorous interpretative study never materialized in the United States until now.

"The Bauhaus and Czechoslovakia 1919–1938" looks at the Central European context and legacy of Germany’s legendary Bauhaus school. This center of avant-garde learning, whose teachers included artists such as Walter Gropius, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Josef Albers, László Moholy-Nagy and Adolf Meyer, was a place of meeting and mutual inspiration for artists, designers and architects. Czech students brought their own original ideas and progressive techniques into this heady atmosphere. This volume, the result of years of scholarly research by Czech art historian Markéta Svobodová, is the first publication to survey the contributions of Czech students in this creative environment, offering a student-centered perspective on the famed institution.

Résumé:
In "Civic Ground", Patrick Lynch traces the philosophical background to the work of his practice, Lynch Architects, one of the most interesting young architectural offices in the UK at the moment, raising wider ethical considerations about what it means to make good architecture and good cities today. Originating as a PhD, supervised by Peter Carl, Helen Mallinson and Joseph Rykwert, "Civic Ground" critiques the comparison of architecture with sculpture as a question of static form-making, arguing that parallels should be seen in the sense of dynamic rhythmic spatiality, which mediates and embeds a building into its site and civic context, reinforcing the communicative potential of architecture.
