Résumé:
This book examines the possibilities for scaling design solutions to address global warming. Global warming poses new challenges to the architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design communities. The immediate response has been a turn toward a host of energy-saving technologies. What has rarely been addressed, however, is the problem of scale. How can designers make sure that global solutions do not come at the expense of local cultures and environments? By placing human rational, emotional, technological, and social needs at the center of our environmental concerns, this book proposes a new global design initiative. The aim is to develop a language of design that can create proximity between individual responsibility and the current global environmental crisis. These featured projects showcase leading-edge design innovations at multiple scales. Global Design directors Peder Anker, Louise Harpman, and Mitchell Joachim discuss various ways in which design can reformat the unfortunate separation between humans and the natural world.

Résumé:
"No access: Social exclusion in urban spaces", edited by Pia Justesen, sheds light on the mechanisms and factors that contribute to exclusion in contemporary cities. It explores specific typologies and examples of exclusionary design, offers explanations and personal accounts, and addresses the professional and ethical implications of such practices. The book also examines legal restrictions on rough sleeping and begging. It includes seven interviews with people experiencing homelessness, who share their personal stories of navigating life in a city shaped by exclusion and marginalisation.

Résumé:
A city’s infrastructure—its tangle of streets, tunnels, routes and lines—can be much more than a mere functional necessity or an ad hoc constellation. Designed and constructed carefully and purposefully, "infratecture" can add significant sociological, cultural, ecological and economic value to a city. In this volume, Rotterdam-based traffic engineer, academic and architect Marc Verheijen discusses the infrastructure of cities from 15 different perspectives and features 30 examples of international best practices in infrastructure design. A practically oriented book about designing and building everything from roads and viaducts to environmental habitats and noise barriers, Infratecture is also an argument for these integrated design solutions, all the more urgent at a moment of accelerated global urbanization. Infratecture argues that, with the right mind set, genuine cooperation and sophisticated design, infrastructure can form a significant, and positive, part of the everyday environment.

Résumé:
On the High Line, first published in 2012, is an engaging guide to everything a visitor sees when strolling through the park: the innovative gardens and their thousands of native and exotic plant species; the architecture, both old and new, industrial and residential; and a neighborhood whose colorful history includes the birth of the railroad, the Manhattan Project, S clubs, and the legendary Tenth Avenue Cowboy. This updated edition includes sixteen new pages devoted to the final section of the park, with original photography, design renderings, and a new essay by Rick Darke. The book has also been updated throughout to reflect dozens of changes in the neighborhood since first publication.
