The Zurich painter Verena Loewensberg (1912-1986) belongs to the core group of concrete artists in Switzerland, alongside Max Bill, Camille Graeser and Richard Paul Lohse. Next to some lithographs, her woodcuts and linocuts are rated as the most splendid examples of concrete Swiss graphics. At a later stage, she only used the silkscreen technique which had become popular in Europe during the sixties. By using the silkscreen technique to produce graphics, she could best create evenly thick colour surfaces that are both distinct, yet adjoin each other with exact precision. With an essay by Bernadette Walter.

Résumé:
No other region of the world currently has such a high concentration of top-quality graphic design as Switzerland. Traditionally understated, Swiss design is now creating an international sensation as young designers successfully combine radical approaches to design with unerring lightness of touch, craftsmanship and attention to detail. Their use of forms is often reduced, which also meets the standards for use on the Internet and enhances the international reputation of Swiss design. "Benzin" reviews the work of the most talented of the younger generation of Swiss designers. The book strikingly shows how local scenes can shape developments in design despite globalisation.

Résumé:
From England, Scotland and Ireland to Italy, Portugal, and Spain, throughout Scandinavia and including Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the churches studied here illustrate the many ways religious sentiment lends itself to the architectural discipline. The range of artistry is equally vast, featuring works by Alvar Aalto, Mario Botta, Egon Eiermann, Le Corbusier, Carlo Scarpa, Rudolf Schwarz, Alvaro Siza, Heinz Tesar, Aldo Van Eyck and Peter Zumthor. In addition, essays by respected architectural historians as well as prominent theologians discuss the variety of ecclesiastical buildings as well as how the church is viewed both from a Roman Catholic and Protestant perspective.

Résumé:
This volume is published on the occasion of Batia Suter’s exhibition at the Mauvoisin Dam in Switzerland. Suter focuses on her ever-expanding archive of scanned landscape images, which has already played an important role in her earlier publications. Many of the images depict wastelands, alternating between romantic and menacing views which create simultaneous sensations of majesty and disorientation. Through layering, a variety of disparate geological and biological environments merge into composite, dreamlike landscapes in a kind of adventurous journey. The book’s title is derived from the term “Hexameter”, a poetic form of writing used in Homer’s ‘Odyssey’.

Résumé:
Authored by Robin Kinross, this volume offers a tour through the history of Western typography, from the time when it can be said to have become “modern” to the present moment. It highlights different cultures in different times, tracing the developments and shifts in modern typography while giving attention to ideas, social contexts, and techniques, thereby also bypassing the tired tropes of stylistic analysis. Included are concise accounts of modernist typography in Central Europe between the wars, and in Switzerland in the 1950s and ’60s. Traditional typography in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, and the Low Countries is also discussed sympathetically.
