Inflow Capsule
AP144.S2.D69
Description:
File documents a report by Cedric Price on Inflow Capsule, a concept for the Selfridges store, on Oxford Street, London, England. The design concept called for a self-contained unit at street level that would act as a funnel to attract customers into large department stores. The capsule would contain goods, displays, screens, its own illumination, heating and visual feeds. It would combine entertainment with selling and thus construct a new atmosphere for the market place. Material in this file was produced in 1967. File contains textual records.

Projet
AP056.S1.1991.PR03
Description:
This project series documents planning for the Westnor Development Project, later called Wittington Place, in North York, Ontario from 1991-1997. The office identified the project number as 9106. This project consisted of a competition entry to develop the area above Highway 401 next to Yonge Street. The large plot of land would be a mix of residential, retail, hotel, office and outdoor spaces. The competition also called for the creation of a sports arena, Canada Coliseum, to be used for professional basketball and hockey. This entry was proposed by New York based firm Ehrenkrantz Eckstut and Whitelaw Architects, working with KPMB, among others.[1] The development was to be carried out in multiple phases, divided by city blocks. The drawings present different schemes for this development, most of which include a large park at its centre. This project was never built. The project is recorded through drawings and a site plan painting dating from 1991-1997. The large part of these drawings are originals and include sketches, model drawings, site plans and surveys, elevations, sections, perspectives and axonometric drawings. These drawings focus primarily on the development of the area as a whole and less on individual buildings. Some material from this file was submitted for publication in 'L'Architecture d'aujourd'hui' (1972) and 'Bauen + Wohnen' (1972). Material in this file was produced between 1971 and 1972. File contains conceptual drawings, photographic materials, presentation drawings, reference drawings, and textual records.

AP144.S2.D153
Description:
File documents Price's participation in an international ideas workshop for a redundant docks area on the river Elbe in Hamburg, Germany. The workshop, entitled "IV. Hamburger Bauforum 1989", was designed as a simulated competition with different teams working separately. Price and his team proposed to turn the area into a large nature reserve for migratory waterfowl, and included a design for a self-powered floating walkway called the "mud-mobile". Although the project arose from the Hamburger Bauforum workshop, Price apparently pursued it further after the workshop was over. Included in this file are drawings of a room, possibly for an exhibition of the project (DR2004:0877). Material in this file was produced between 1989 and 1991. File contains conceptual drawings, presentation panels, a model, photographs, and textual records.
