Résumé:
The BLK/MRKT Gallery near Los Angeles is one of the most influential galleries for new contemporary art. The artists that it shows are informed by all aspects of urban contemporary culture; influences that range from design and illustration to music and street art. Its targeted and professional approach to emerging talent has rightly caught the eye of the media, the international art scene and brand managers at leading companies. This attention allows the gallery to work as a successful platform for the promotion of promising contemporary artists. BLK/MRKT TWO presents current work from a selection of artists associated with the gallery. These include David Ellis, Ian Francis, Mark Dean Veca, Lucy McLaughlan, Mel Kadel, Dave Kinsey, Mark Jenkins, Tiffany Bozic, Gregory Euclide and Ben Tour. Rich with striking images, BLK/MRKT TWO illustrates the most current forms of visual expression and trends in contemporary art. Like in the BLK/MRKT Gallery, the book also refrains from putting art on an elite pedestal and instead makes the progressive work produced at the conjunction between urban culture and creative vision accessible to all.

Résumé:
Ecological and artistic approaches to designing our environment raise important questions which have to be faced by all designers of urban spaces, gardens or landscape: whether to conserve or to intervene, to rely on natural order or apply man-made means and whether to lend nature a romantic or a technocratic appearance. Which approaches to design and artistic concepts are able to unite these seemingly contradictory poles to create sophisticated projects in harmony with nature? In this publication landscape architects, artists, philosophers, social scientists and natural scientists provide answers to these central questions in landscape design and environmental art. Amongst the 17 authors are Jacques Leenhardt (F), Massimo Venturi Ferriolo (I), Udo Weilacher (D), Malcom Miles (GB), Tim Collins (USA) and Jochen Boberg from the MD Berlin with whom this book is co-produced. This volume contains works by more than 50 international artists and landscape architects, among them the internationally renowned Herman Prigann, one of the most active landscape artists. His work is extensively presented here for the first time, and represents four decades of continuing commitment to artistic and ecologically oriented landscape design.

LOT-EK is a design practice that believes in being unoriginal, ugly, and cheap. Also in being revolutionary, gorgeous, and completely luxurious. LOT-EK’s work reveals extraordinary transformations of ordinary things—from their famous shipping container projects onward—combining maker culture and hacker culture into beautiful and radical visions for sustainable and meaningful living. LOT-EK: Objects + Operations surveys dozens of projects—built, unbuilt and in-progress; polemical, practical, and in-between—complemented by photographs from LOT-EK’s multi-year URBAN SCAN project, a vast photographic document of infrastructure and incident, as well as essays by Thomas de Monchaux and interviews with founding partners Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano.

Résumé:
In the sixties and seventies, Ugo La Pietra's design research focused, following critical trends which analysed the social and peripheral aspect of the urban space, on spontaneous material cultures. In particular, within Other cultures, La Pietra's investigation focuses on a specific and circumscribed environment, where architectural peculiarities are created spontaneously: Poetto beach in Cagliari. The review, which consists of a photographic sampling of the summer beach constructions, the "ville", dating back to 1978 and reveals a unique environment that has all but vanished, a spontaneous architecture that observes a cohesive language. The wooden villas along the beach in Cagliari are unique structures which form, as shown inside the book, a real lost architectural alphabet.
