Résumé:
Five Dutch architects were invited to design a ceramic container. The process took them to an unknown land, a "terra incognita", and the resulting designs represented the philosophical approach each architect or firm took to the problem of product design. The architects are Ben van Berkel & Caroline Bos, Erick van Egeraat, MVRDV, NL Architects, and Nox.

Résumé:
The storybook history of the American West is a male-dominated narrative of drifters, dreamers, hucksters, and heroes--a tale that relegates women, assuming they appear at all, to the distant background. Home Lands: How Women Made the West upends this view to remember the West as a place of homes and habitations brought into being by the women who lived there. Virginia Scharff and Carolyn Brucken consider history's long span as they explore the ways in which women encountered and transformed three different archetypal Western landscapes: the Rio Arriba of northern New Mexico, the Front Range of Colorado, and the Puget Sound waterscape. This book vividly reimagines the West as a setting in which home has been created out of differing notions of dwelling and family and differing concepts of property, community, and history.

Résumé:
''Humane ecology: Eight positions'' features a group of contemporary artists who consider the intertwined natural and social dimensions of environmental questions: Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Carolina Caycedo, Allison Janae Hamilton, Juan Antonio Olivares, Christine Howard Sandoval, Pallavi Sen, and Kandis Williams. These artists—through their work in sculpture, video, sound installation, and plantings—think in the relational terms implied by ecology, the study of how organisms relate to one another and their environment. They explore themes such as the extraction and exploitation of both places and people, kinships with the more-than-human world, and ancient traditions of relation to the land that take on new urgency and form. Against posthumanist tendencies to “decenter” the human, these artists center different humans, ones routinely excluded from dominant discourses of environmentalism. The publication presents entries on each artist in addition to scholarly essays on the exhibition concept, genealogies of land art, and settler colonial histories of the Berkshires.

Résumé:
"Blazing Light" is published to coincide with Mimi Plumb’s first solo museum exhibition of the same name (High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia) and brings together three of her major bodies of work—The White Sky, Landfall and The Golden City, and The Reservoir—that collectively contemplate the anxieties of American life in the waning years of the Cold War and its aftermath. In the 1970s, Plumb began photographing as a teenager in the San Francisco suburb of Walnut Creek at a time marked by rapid development of the land coupled with global political and economic instability. Her early artistic life was defined by a burgeoning awareness of global warming, the AIDS epidemic, violent conflict in Latin America and the Middle East, and a looming threat of nuclear war. This atmosphere attuned Plumb to the evidence of such forces in the land, the built environment, and the ways people carry themselves and relate to one another—concerns that continue to abide in her work to this day.
