Renowned for her unadorned, grungy photographs of iconic models of the 1990s, Day’s representation of female beauty met its match in Coppola, whose debut marked the first of her unaffected, empathetic depictions of womanhood. Résumé:
Amanda Vickery unlocks the homes of Georgian England to examine the lives of the people who lived there. Vickery makes ingenious use of upholsterer’s ledgers, burglary trials, and other unusual sources to reveal the roles of house and home in economic survival, social success, and political representation during the long eighteenth century. Through the spread of formal visiting, the proliferation of affordable ornamental furnishings, the commercial celebration of feminine artistry at home, and the currency of the language of taste, even modest homes turned into arenas of social campaign and exhibition.

Résumé:
The work of Angela Grauerholz occupies an important place in Canadian and international photography. From the 1980s on, her search to redefine the art of photography has taken various forms including portraits and interior and exterior scenes with or without people. Yet regardless of the subject, her work gives an impression of timelessness with images that are both commonplace and sublime. This retrospective publication covers twenty years of production and highlights Grauerholz’s major photographic and installation works. Three critical essays discuss the work in relation to time, memory and representation.

Résumé:
In the late 1960s, the feminist scholar Kate Millet broadly defined "politics" as arrangements of power which enable individuals collectively to assert authority over others. Taking this definition, case studies by scholars from Europe and Israel explore the gendered professional in the 20th century as she navigated arrangements of power-including organised religion, emancipation movements, cultural norms, and shifting forms of government - to practice architecture. Additional contributions reflect upon power structures in contemporary architectural education, practice, and history to propose other means of architectural knowledge, representation, and professional activity.

Résumé:
Over the past 30 years, the French Swiss architectural photographer Hélène Binet has traveled the world to photograph historic and contemporary buildings, as well as projects in the making. Considered by many the premier “architect’s photographer,” Binet has worked closely with Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind and Peter Zumthor among others, who have turned to her to interpret their work. Using only analogue techniques, Binet’s photographs are both a representation and a discovery of her subjects, all of them buildings that break the mold, pushing daringly at the boundaries of their time.
