Résumé:
Interior architecture today operates at the intersection between physical and mediated spaces, such as those of mass communications, digital platforms or visual arts. Considering any form of representation as potentially architectural, from writing to photography, drawing to cinema, Javier Fernández Contreras traces the origins of this process of hybridisation between space and media back to the Renaissance and addresses the role of interiors as an experimental laboratory of late modernity. Combining historic scholarship with bold hypotheses, his essay explores contemporary interiors as platforms of ‘expanded media’, examining their belonging to different places and temporalities, whether physical or virtual, close or distant, ultimately reasserting the role of interior architecture in the construction of contemporaneity.

Résumé:
Scolari's illustrated studies show that illusionistic perspective is not the only, or even the best, representation of objects in history; parallel projection, for example, preserves in scale the actual measurements of objects it represents, avoiding the distortions of one-point perspective. Scolari analyzes the use of nonperspectival representations in pre-Renaissance images of machines and military hardware, architectural models and drawings, and illustrations of geometrical solids. He challenges Panofsky's theory of Pompeiian perspective and explains the difficulties encountered by the Chinese when they viewed Jesuit missionaries' perspectival religious images. Scolari demonstrates the diversity of representational forms devised through the centuries, and shows how each one reveals something that is lacking in the others.

Résumé:
Positions addresses the ascent of architectural photography as a discipline, and the changing role of the architectural photographer. Once merely charged with providing a purely documentary representation of a building, the architectural photographer now offers a personal interpretation of the work of the architect, urban planner or landscape designer. The common factor that unites the photographers presented here--Theo Baart, Bas Princen, Ralph Kamena, Jannes Linders, Jeroen Musch and Hans Werlemann--is that each of them has brought a highly personal perspective to bear upon their approach to their commissions, and that each of their oeuvres has had a direct impact on contemporary architecture and urban planning. Positions examines the photographer's emancipation from documentary constraint to creative agency.

Résumé:
Immediate and constructive, the physicality of hand drawing, upon which representation formats are based, is a necessary skill needed to communicate ideas in the field of architectural design. Drawing for Architects provides a technique-based, progression of drawing types and instructions teaching core drawing principles needed to connect drawing with architectural design. Architect and author Julia McMorrough outlines issues around each of the types of drawing, showing that the conversations of plan, section, elevation, axonometric, and perspective each have a relation to the kind of design information that drawing makes possible to express. Drawing for Architects explains both the technical and disciplinary importance of drawing and how to enable design creativity and application through its practiced use.

Résumé:
In Picturing Casablanca, Susan Ossman probes the shape and texture of mass images in Casablanca, from posters, films, and videotapes to elections, staged political spectacles, and changing rituals. In a fluid style that blends ethnographic narrative, cultural reportage, and the author's firsthand experiences, Ossman sketches a radically new vision of Casablanca as a place where social practices, traditions, and structures of power are in flux. From Madonna videos and the TV's transformation of social time, to changing gender roles and new ways of producing and disseminating information, the Morocco that Ossman reveals is a telling commentary on the consequences of colonial planning, the influence of modern media, and the rituals of power and representation enacted by the state.

Résumé:
In Radical Museology, New York–based art historian Claire Bishop argues that the incommensurability of fiscal and cultural temporality--one fast, the other slower--points to an alternative world of values in which museums (and by extension, culture, education and democracy in general) are not subject to the banalities of a spreadsheet, but enable us to access a rich and diverse history, to question the present and to realize a different future. She discusses creative solutions implemented at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, the Museo Nacional de Reina Sofía in Madrid and MSUM in Ljubljana. This book is a manifesto for the importance of a politicized representation of the contemporary in today’s art.
