Résumé:
Yoshio Futagawas photographic homage to two single-family residences in São Paulo designed by architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha allows an intimate look at domestic life shaped by the contrast between exposed concrete surfaces and lush natural surroundings. Designed and built in the early 1970s, both houses are archetypal examples of the so-called Brazilian Brutalism style for which the architect is famous. At the time, they became a laboratory for the architects political beliefs as he developed a language and spatiality of his own. Résumé:
The Pattern and Decoration movement emerged in the 1970s as an embrace of long-dismissed art forms associated with the decorative. Pioneering artists such as Miriam Schapiro, Joyce Kozloff, Robert Kushner, and others appropriated patterns, frequently from non-Western decorative arts, to produce intricate, often dizzying or gaudy designs in media ranging from painting, sculpture, and collage to ceramics, installation art, and performance. This book showcases works by more than 40 artists from across the United States, examining the movement’s defiant adoption of art forms traditionally viewed as feminine, craft-based, or otherwise inferior to fine art.

Résumé:
This book features eleven internationally acclaimed artists, including Jan Albers, Michael Borremans, Marc Brandenburg, Fernando Bryce, Kate Davis, Monika Grzymala, David Haines, Kim Hiorthoy, Sandra Vasquez de la Horra, Garrett Phelan and Naoyuki Tsuji. As a group, their work represents a vast range of possible interpretations of drawing, from meticulously rendered quotidian scenes to three-dimensional drawings that merge with and respond to architectural space. Though drawing foundered in art schools during the 1970s, tainted by academicism, recently it has undergone a resurgence of popularity, partly because of its accessibility as a tool for communicating personal visions and ideas.

Résumé:
This monograph presents over five decades of work by this artist and reveals the variety of ways and creativity with which Alex Wyse has expressed his distinct worldview. Taking the vein of environmental consciousness running through Wyse's work, the authors stress key works that disclose the human folly that so often underlies environmental disaster such as: the Super Shows Presents series that began in the late 1960s; the elaborate tableaus depicting the inventive antics of the Rutherford siblings from the mid-1970s; and the pointillist paintings, where troubled fish and trees try to escape their spoiled environments from the mid-1980s onward.

Charles Jencks and Nathan Silver's book was a manifesto for a generation that took pleasure in doing things ad hoc, using materials at hand to solve real-world problems. The implications were subversive. Turned-off citizens of the 1970s immediately adopted the book as a DIY guide. The word "adhocism" entered the vocabulary, the concept of adhocism became part of the designer's toolkit, and "Adhocism" became a cult classic. Now "Adhocism" is available again, with new texts by Jencks and Silver reflecting on the past forty years of adhocism and new illustrations demonstrating adhocism's continuing relevance.

Résumé:
Grant Kester discusses a disparate network of artists and collectives — including The Art of Change, Helen and Newton Harrison, Littoral, Suzanne Lacy, Stephen Willats, and WochenKlausur — united by a desire to create new forms of understanding through creative dialogue that crosses boundaries of race, religion, and culture. Kester traces the origins of these works in the conceptual art and feminist performance art of the 1960s and 1970s and draws from the writings of Mikhail Bakhtin, Jürgen Habermas, and others as he explores the ways in which these artists corroborate and challenge many of the key principles of avant-garde art and art theory.
