Résumé:
"Alphabettes Soup: 2015–2025" celebrates a decade of feminist approaches to type research, design, and creative community-building. The book blends key articles from the Alphabettes platform with original essays, exploring intersections between culture, language, business practices, technology, and type. It also includes interviews with Alphabettes members, visual histories, and reflections on past and ongoing initiatives. More than an anthology, Alphabettes Soup is a dynamic collection of voices and stories. The book is conceived as a type specimen, showcasing over 100 typefaces designed by women and non-binary individuals. Aimed at challenging dominant narratives in type history and contemporary practice, Alphabettes Soup seeks to inspire future generations to create their own decentralized design communities.

Résumé:
"U" (Upper & lower case) was a defining voice in world graphic design between 1973 and 1999. It was in some ways a lifestyle magazine for the design community, providing a fascinating intersection of popular culture and graphic design in the last quarter of the 20th century. The list of editorial contributors to "U" is long, many prominent designers worked on designing entire issues. Their best work is showcased in this book through the reproduction of selected covers, stories, and illustrations from the approximately 100 quarterly issues that were published. This book also contains four informal but in-depth chapters on the background, context, use of design and typography, and people involved in making "U" happen over the years.

Résumé:
American homes are typically made of lumber and plywood delivered by a global system of ruthless extraction, or of concrete and steel, which are even worse for the planet. Wood is often the most sustainable material for building, but we need to protect diverse forests as much as we desperately need more houses. Brian Donahue addresses this modern conundrum by documenting his experiences building a timber frame home from the wood growing on his family farm, practicing “worst first” forestry. Through the stories of the trees he used (sugar maple, black cherry, black birch, and hemlock), and some he didn’t (white pine and red oak), the book also explores the history of Americans’ relationship with their forests.

This publication looks at agricultural practices and the appropriation of space in the city of Porto, Portugal, and the different ways in which this phenomenon has manifested in the aftermath of the financial crisis 2011. The book recounts the stories of ten gardens and the people running them, who have resuscitated urban brownfield sites by growing fruit and vegetables on them as a source of food. To achieve this end, they have developed infrastructures like watering and irrigation systems and methods of cultivation, recycling, and composting, while also building storage structures and producing their own tools. Although the gardens are primarily about people providing for themselves, they also lend themselves to recreation and leisure activities.

London's streets, built up over more than two thousand years, are a maze of history, cultures and stories. In his fantastically detailed maps of the city, Stephen Walter translates these elements into a tangle of insightful yet humorous words and symbols that make up a complex of hidden meanings and wider contradictions. Testament to Walter's skill and importance as a cartographer, his groundbreaking, oversized map The Island was one of only two works by contemporary artists to feature in the seminal Magnificent Maps exhibition held at the British Library in 2010, the other by Grayson Perry and was exhibited together with some of the most important maps in history, such as Pierre Desceliers's 1550 world map.
