Résumé:
Published to complement the 14th Shanghai Biennale, entitled Cosmos Cinema and curated by Anton Vidokle, this illustrated catalogue extends the exhibition's proposal that the methodologies of filmmaking might offer one way of representing and reimagining our entanglement in time and space. The book presents the work of artists from the early twentieth century to the present alongside a series of specially commissioned essays on subjects ranging from the history of Shanghai cinema to the possibility of communicating with nonhuman intelligence. Arranged according to the Nine Palaces of traditional Chinese cosmology, and reproduced here in a design that recreates the consciously cinematic experience of the exhibition, these works of art and their accompanying texts encourage us to reflect on our place within the systems that shape our lives at every scale.

Résumé:
The publication is the first comprehensive study of Baruchello’s relationship with the moving image from the sixties on. Produced on the occasion of the exhibition "Gianfranco Baruchello: Cold Cinema". "Film, video e opere 1960-1999", held at La Triennale di Milano in 2014 and 2015, the book opens with a densely packed montage of Baruchello’s own notes, images, and documents, presented by means of a medium dear to the artist, photocopies. An essay by Alessandro Rabottini takes us through the rooms of the exhibition at La Triennale di Milano, while a conversation between Baruchello and Massimiliano Gioni highlights some key aspects of his ideas about cinema. Carla Subrizi’s text winds its way through his entire production of films and videos, whereas an essay by Philippe-Alain Michaud examines some of the historical roots of Verifica incerta (1964-65).

Résumé:
The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art began collecting artists’ books in 1999 with the purchase of editions created in the 1960s and ’70s, a period that coincided with the rise of conceptualism. It has since gathered over 5,000 of artists’ books. Counterpart to an eponymous exhibition, this book features a selection of 26 books and editions by 21 artists that present alternative perspectives on what it means to produce knowledge. The fourth volume in a series devoted to research and presentation of works in the collection of Serralves, it contains entries on each of the publications, reprints of texts by Chus Martínez and Clive Phillpot, and a foreword by curator Ricardo Nicolau.
